NJ passed our no smoking law this year. I think it makes it infinetly more easy to quit while getting on with your life including going out. For me however, alchol is a big trigger and was a big part of my past quit failures so I am abstaining as much as possible. BTW, haven't seen anyone go out business because of it! WHAT IF SOMEBODY WANTED TO OPEN THEIR OWN ESTABLISMENT WITH A BIG SIGN ON THE FRONT DOOR THAT READ: SHIRTS, SHOES AND SMOKING REQUIRED! (cigars appreciated) ANYONE NOT CONFORMING TO THE RULES must sit outside but, of course, that would be discriminatory, against the law and an infringement upon people's rights. Funny you should ask.. I live in Las Vegas Nevada (yes sin city), and our smoking laws go into effect tonight at midnight. They only place you will be allowed to smoke now will be on the casino floor. Which is weird, because you have been able to smoke everywhere until now. The passing of the law (which I voted against) is actually one of my biggest reasons to quit. I was so bummed out when it passed, thinking that it was a infringement on my rights and yada yada yada. Then it occured to me that if I quit I would not care about anti-smoking laws anymore. So I guess what I am saying is I can't wait for midnight!! KTQ.. Nicodemon

Montgomery County, MD, a suburb of Washington, DC, went smoke-free a year or so ago. People howled -- especially bar and restaurant owners -- but reports indicate that business is booming on all fronts. Funny thing, when I go out (I'm on the Virginia side of DC), I like to sit in smoking sections -- maybe it's just a bit of nostalgia on my part. I still like hanging out with smokers, I guess --- I smoked for a whole lot more of my life than I didn't smoke. Luckilly, though, when the ban hits the rest of the places -- and it surely will -- it won't affect me. That's something, anyway. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 38 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,925 Amount Saved: $209 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 17 Mins: 51 Seconds: 14

Freebird, I live in Ohio, too. Our plant went smoke-free last night. I think the bars and restaurants will do fine. People will go outside to smoke if they need to. It won't be something to stop people from going to the bar, I don't think. It will also probably get some people wanting to go out who couldn't stand the smoke. I wish they would pass it here. (S.C.). It is being talked about. I know bars say they would lose business. I can't stand to go to a bar now because my clothes stink by the time I leave. Maybe the bar owners should think about new business, non-smokers who may come to their place if it is non-smoking. Just a thought! Freebird, Good question, it is sure to generate some interesting discussion! Just as Riverdale Man said, here in Toronto, we are smoke free! Smokers just head outside to smoke now. Some of the bars have placed heating lamps outside from them to huddle around. They are now also considering legislating smoking in all cars. Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

freebird, Its a law here in Colorado and has been since July 1, 2006 (thats why I quit before that date). I heard positive and negative during the first couple weeks. The negative does dwindle because people learn to accept the fact its a law. Obviously people voted to pass it. I went to a bar to hear a specific band play and oh it was so different. I thought I knew what the place inside looked like. Totally different when there isnt' smoke in the air. Congrats and my hubby is from Canton, Ohio and he was ticked about the law I just giggle because he chose to continue smoking and well, its more difficult to be accepted in society.
