Halfway thru Day One

Congratulations on choosing to stop smoking. Trying drink ice water it may help with the withdrawal symptoms -- flushes it out of your body quicker. This is my quit day also and so far so good. I am on Wellbutrin and it seems to be working for me.

I woke up to my the first day of the rest of my life smoke-free! Made sure my coffee was very watered down & journaled for 30 minutes as was worried that the 'wake-up' part of day would be the worst time of the day for me. Very surprised that the morning was relatively free of heavy craving, just a few flash visuals of my self puffing away. Used the positive self-talk when I realized I was picturing myself smoking. Mid morning found that I was extremely tired, wanted to go back to bed. My husband said no, we're going to the gym. So ate an orange & grumbled all the way to the gym. I'm shocked at how helpful physical exercise was in decreasing that 'constant pressure' of craving that I feel. Did very well until mid-afternoon (right now), as seem shakey, the physical pain is slowly starting (had this in 1st two quits too). Muscles across my shoulders, shoulder sockets & spine from neck to midway down back is starting to burn, throb. Hate this part, took some ibruprophen (sp?). Guess I'm just one of those that manifest physical pain when I'm in withdrawel. Sigh . . . but am very happy that I haven't wanted to shoot husband or cry a river yet. Hey amethyst_isis - - are you around? Thank you for offering to be a buddy, I clicked your name. But I don't understand how the SSC Messenger works. All I know is that I now have a heck of a time shutting down computer, as always forget to log off or shut down one of those SSC thingies. How are you doing? I'm doing this cold turkey but this afternoon have started to chew (or more like twirl) a plastic stir-stick in my mouth as a substitute. I make myself put it down every 5 mintues or so, think I'm using it as hand-mouth substitute. Not sure if that's a good idea. Feel better now that have been talking to you all, I never, ever want to smoke again. I keep telling myself that today is the first day of my new smokefree life. Am hanging in there!! Day One DONE. Yippee!! Will post to say thank you for your support today. Odd but it seemed much easier to get through today than I expected. Glad to hear that physical pain in stress areas of my neck, etc, is not uncommon. Helps me just to wait it out rather than let my head play games with it. Water has helped, the deep breathing thing frustrates me yet, think I need to practice it more. A big thanks for your kind words & prayers. See you tomorrow! P.S. to Krissie, I got the IM - - but do not know when as got ph call while posting & ended up w/lengthy conversation. You were off by the time I replied. Thx for being there to chk on me! Appreciate it!!! JyNM; I kept wondering why the withdrawel symptoms were not as bad as I had expected! Much worse during my first two attempts at cold turkey quits on my own. I think you've hit it on the head for me with the 'I don't expect this quit to be difficult'. I'm quitting the same way as I've tried in the past, completely cold turkey but I've got new tools to help - - information from the site (now educated better on this quit smoking business), a journal to rant/write in, the support here - to be able to communicate with others that have quit & be able to express what I'm feeling/going through - and know that it is being understood. As you all have been through it or are going through the same phase as I am. Keep up the good fight Joel! Hey Tweety, welcome aboard. Feel free to click me into your buddy list if you ever want talk via IM. I'm not very good at the computer yet & need practice w/the IM thing anyway! Plus I find it very motivating to get thru the physical withdrawel by posting w/those close in quit time to me. Yes, am slugging in tons of water today but keep wanting to eat, eat, eat. So am playing w/straw in my mouth just to get thru the hand-to-mouth habit too. Great to have you w/us, Ericon My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 58 Amount Saved: $7.25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 36 Seconds: 7

Hey Ericon... Keep it up, you are doing great so far!!!! Well done... You are not the only one to manifest with physical pain when you quit.. I have been there too, only for the past couple of days though... I have arthritis and day one and two it was hell... Seems to have eased up pretty well now... Once you start up the messenger you will be able to see when I am online... When I am you can just pop me a message at any time, even if you just need someone to chat to while you wait out a craving... Again, well done.... We can do this, if we do it together... Since I decided to go cold turkey on the patch at 8 days of no smoking, I just convinced myself it was easy... and It's been 53 hours and not on craving worth mentioning. Nothing sticks out. I've had some moments where I feel a bit distracted, but nothing I would consider all that uncomfortable. I think it's only as hard as one makes it to be. I've tried cold turkey many times and usually can't make it but a few hours before I cave in. Now I smell freedom, and I shall have it for my own. I hope you smell it to!
