Cost of Smoking in New Jersey

Congratulations jerlasvegas!! You are doing GREAT on both of your quits. I don't believe I could have quit both at the same time. I'm beginning day 7 of being smoke free with a lot of help from this site and the loving people here. I've been alcohol free for 2 years, 4 months and 7 days and got my life back with the help of AA. My greatest motivation to quit smoking is my new home which will be smoke and alcohol free. I just can't afford those things and pay for my home. My reward,my home, arrived this week. A double wide mobile home on my own land. I'll be able to move my meager belongings in next week. No furnature to speak of but it will come piece by piece and won't smell like smoke!! Life is good. Keep doin what your doin!!! Hello Everyone, Well when I was in Michigan a pack of cigs cost $5.00-$5.75 a pack in some places nothing lower than $5.00 if you want the name brand. If not your cost may start at $4.50 up. I'm here in KY now and of course this is the cig town. when I arrived I was so excited I only paid.. $3.00 for a pack of cigs wow .. that was a biggggggg dip from paying over $5.00 for a pack and I smoked 1.5 packs a day so i would purchase 2 to 3 packs of cigs a day. Well in MI this would break me and leave me lopsided most of the time but as stated above when i got here it was like wow Hot diggity .. yum yum ... lol .. I thought I found a candy jar.. lol Anyway .. glad I decided to quit even though the cost had gotten much cheaper, I'm glad I quite. P. Loving ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 20 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 609 Amount Saved: $79 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 3 Mins: 39 Seconds: 0

Hi all, Here in The Netherlands they don't put up the price but they they take out one cigaret. Instead of 20 you get only 19 cigs per box. Sneaky huh? The price is 4 a box. Here in texas, I could bet a carton of dorals for about $25.00. Every week I would buy my gas and two cartons for my daughter and I. That is almost as much as my car payment! And yes, I have made the decision to buy cigs instead of good food, buying pasta and beans and stuff to eat instead of veg. and meat. I keep hearing that there will be a dollor a pack tax put on it but I think the texas legislator keeps voting it down (a lot of them must be smokers) Mama My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,335 Amount Saved: $188.1 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 12 Mins: 51 Seconds: 56

In the UK, the government are very kind and considerate. A pack costs around $7-$9. They make it very expensive so when we quit, we are rewarded by saving so much money! Such nice people Mr Ed ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 158 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,753 Amount Saved: 1185 Life Gained: Days: 26 Hrs: 9 Mins: 53 Seconds: 54

Yikes! We paid $4.50 a pack for Newports and that was WAY over what I said my limit was. Hubby still smokes but he is only going through maybe 2 packs a week so its not killing us too bad. He will quit one day when he is ready! Hey Jerlasvegas I am from a state across the bridge from Jersey and people came across all the time to buy cigarettes. They always bought the 10 carton limit. I always said if smoking ever cost a certain amount I would stop. Prices did hit the $1 mark then the $2 mark then the $3 mark per pack. I never did follow up on my threats, in fact I bought cigarettes BEFORE food, if money were tight! Of course now I wouldn't care if they cost $100 a carton....and if I were still in the nicodemons trap, SADLY, I would pay the $100 a carton. I quit smoking on July 16, 2006 at 7:47pm. It has been 5 days, 23 hours, 2 minutes, and 21 seconds since I quit. Had I not quit smoking, I would have: * Smoked 119 cigarettes (That's like smoking a 33 foot long cigarette) * Spent $25.51 on cigarettes * Inhaled 1.19 grams of tar * Inhaled 95 mg of nicotine (That's like doing 1,788 hits of nicotine) * Inhaled 1.31 grams of carbon monoxide * Taken an additional 17 hours, 38 minutes, and 14 seconds off my life I quit drinking on July 16, 2006 at 3:00pm. It has been 6 days, 3 hours, 49 minutes, and 21 seconds since I quit. Had I not quit drinking, I would have: * Drank the equivlant of 92 beers or 92 shots of Southern Comfort. * Spent $71.86 on alcohol * Ingested 2.12 litres of pure alcohol The drinking is based on how I drank up until August of Last year. Since then I toned it down and have been going on sober sprints then binges, but now I am planning on giving it up period. But just looking at what it can end up costing me its amazing. It is kinda cloe because the weekend of the 4th, I didn't drink on the 4th but drank almost $60 worth of alcohol in 3 days. So what do I have now ? $97.37 USD not spent on killing myself!! YAY! hehe my gym is only $31 a month, much cheaper, and I did 3 days of weight lifting and 3 days of cardio (45 min each) this week. Boy am I proud of my self. Rest tomorrow then 6 more. I can do this day by day. Thanks all :)
