Hi Iwin, Ketosis happens when you starve yourself it has to do with sugar levels in the liver. It happens after fasting for a long time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 34 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 524 Amount Saved: $136 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 14 Mins: 45 Seconds: 35

I don't have metalic but I sometimes taste cigarettes in my mouth. I figure that is my lungs clearing out the junk. Had the metallic taste ... it didn't last long. Still have blood when I blow my nose. Still cough stuff up. It doesn't bother me. I feel good knowing that I am healing. Hi Sunflower! Just the taste (like having braces again!) no bleeding of nose tho. It didn't last longer than a week or two. About one month into my quit I got some kind of metallic taste in my mouth and my nose bleeds a lot. Have anyone of you the same problem? Thank you CobenFan, I never hade braces but I can imagine it's pretty much the same taste:-) It's not so nice to feel that taste all the time, I am starting to think that it will last forever. Sunflower I had a metallic taste in my mouth and my mouth bled for quit some time. Up until day 80 or so. I never had nose bleeds. The metallic taste can be from different things and if it continues or gets worrysome I would see your dentist, mine was able to let me know exactly what was up inside my mouth. About the nose bleeds I would see your doctor if you are worried about them. Glad to see you back here. Sunflower, I had that too. I did not even know how to describe the feeling until someone else asked about it and used the word metallic. If it had not been for that, my quit would have been more of a breeze. The feeling does drive you a little crazy and you worry that it is going to last forever. It does go away although mine lasted several months. I still get a little feeling in my mouth even now sometimes, but not anywhere as bad as it was. It is almost like you are getting a craving in your mouth. I don't think too many people get this side effect. I read online somewhere that it happens because there is sugar in the cigarette paper and when you quit you get ketosis. They sell strips in the pharmacy to test for that. I always meant to pick some up to see if that was what it was but I never did. Anyway don't worry it will go away eventually. In the meantime cinnamon gum helps alot. I had the metallic (coppery) taste on the back of my tounge, but no nosebleeds. It doesn't last forever, Carina.
