Hello Alison, I am sorry to hear that you are going through such a rough time. I have quit with a smoker living in the house before i must admit I found it very hard. Have you read the Allen Carr book? That might make you take a tougher stance on your husband. It should also empower you. I dont think it is unreasonable to ask him to take a shower before bed. Also for him to smoke outside of the house and away from you. If you want to vent, post, and we will be here for you! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hello everyone, I am finding the quit getting harder. My husband is now smoking at least a packet a day. He stinks like a sour old ashtray (which I have made him aware of). He is spending money like water on this filthy habit. This all of course gives me a wonderfully high moral ground to ***** from. BUT. I find that I'm needing my NRT more than ever - especially at the moment 'cause I'm very tired & run down. Ciggies were always a boost in the past. And then there's the smell in our bedroom, all night and every morning, drifting out of his skin and lungs - it all takes me back to those horrible old days where I was a full on smoker too. It all partly repulses me, but also partly eats away at my happiness at being a non-smoker. Sorry to winge. I even found myself eyeing off the cigarettes at the grocery store this morning. I haven't had one puff in 48 days, I feel so much better. I'm healthier and happier. Why does my husband's habit and lack of quitting power eat away at me and my quit? alison :quest: Kick the Herb to the Kerb My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 48 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,466 Amount Saved: $600 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 22 Mins: 16 Seconds: 57

Thanks so much everybody - this is just what I needed. My quit is my own responsibility. I love how I feel now, except for the occasional trigger/memory/craving - choose your fav word. I wish David could stay quit as well, and I do know what he's going thru - I've failed at quitting enough times myself to know how depressed he's feeling. (He hides it v well though.) Just the smell of him is really getting to me, I can hardly bear to kiss him. Maybe it's karma for being stinky for all the non-smoking boyfriends I had as a smoker! lol *sniff* I'll be patient, I'll be a good example, I'll be true to myself. Thanks again everyone. Island girl - I love your motto, it is too cool! We had our smoking place outside too (not enclosed), but David still smokes there. He doesn't keep an ashtray cause I asked him not to leave any evidence lying around. I agree - the worst thing is the smell. Plus, the fact that we quit together. It was supposed to be a joint effort. He caved after about 10 days & just had the one. 2 weeks later he was back to a packet a day. GGrrrrrr. *grin* I'll be patient, I'll be good. I'll kill him with kindness! Chickstarr, Many members have reported trouble with this. You've gotten some pretty good advice from your fellow members, you'll just have to keep trying to find some middle ground with your hubby. In the meantime come post here if you need a place to vent. Keep persevering, Danielle __________________________ The SSC Support Team

My hubby still smokes and it was hard at first. I was so angry at him because he could still have a cig and I wanted one but couldn't have it. I realized that I realy didn't want one, I just thought I did because I was addicted. It has gotten easier but I just had to let go of it! I didn't want to hate him because he wasn't ready to quit. I wanted to quit so badly so I just stopped letting it bug me. It is difficult and there are times that I feel like you but they pass! Hold on tight, it will pass!
