chickstarr- Listen to NascarFan as she has walked (and is walking) in your shoes. And like hummy said - you will have to really fight for your Quit! At 48 days there is probably so much going on for you at the same time, dig deep inside and pull out as much clarity as possible about what you are really feeling and why, so everything doesn't get all mixed up together... example - you love your husband, AND (not but) he is an addict - and you do understand that addiction (compassion for him and you) ...etc... I hope this makes sense... And set some boundaries - is he willing to take a shower before bed, or when he gets home (or whatever you need for him to do)... Can he smoke outside? I dunno - but you do, dear one!! And TRUST YOUR INTIUTION also here... Hang on tight - there are others who have been successful and are living with a smoker, so it can and is being done!! Hi Chickstarr - My husband has continued to smoke a pack a day throughout my quit and at first it was hard to resist one but now he just plain stinks! It is very depressing and night before last I started asking him to take a shower before he came to bed - he was hurt but I told him the truth - as hard as it was - that I just couldn't sleep with him in the same bed because my sense of smell is so heightened from not smoking that it was making me sick. I told him that I would make it worth his while :) and happily he obliged. We never smoked in the house so that wasn't a problem - however, we did enjoy our time on the screened porch. I have asked him not to smoke there but set up a nice place in the back of the back yard. He has his own table and chair and I set up a nice citronella candle for him because the mesquitos in South GA - even on our island - are terrible. I have his ashtray out there. He smokes out there or out in the driveway - way away from the house. I asked him to do that not to punish him - but to protect my quit and I told him this. So he willingly did it. He is proud of me but is so addicted himself that he can't see his way out. I know what you are going through but my motto is: Kill them with kindness to get what you want... Stay Strong and come here and post. There are many of us who's spouses and family members are still smoking. Yes, we are responsible for our own quits - but our friends here are helping us along this path with all their strengths and encouragement. Don't make your husband responsible for your quit. It's yours and yours alone! It's an amazing journey - Island Girl My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 133 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,335 Amount Saved: $266 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 14 Mins: 6 Seconds: 42

Hi Chickstarr, Sorry to read you were struggling a bit but you are doing great, almost half way to the beach. As you know, quitting is no easy task. It must be hard when you partner still smokes. Perhaps it will help you to think that even if your partner didnt smoke, I think that you may find something to b**ch about. Unfortunately, I found it is part of the process of quitting. I was on my own when I quit but I still found plenty to grump at. Things do settle. Good luck with your quit :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/7/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 392 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,845 Amount Saved: 1881.6 Life Gained: Days: 64 Hrs: 21 Mins: 32 Seconds: 53

Alison, Congratulations on 48 days!!! That's wonderful! Your husband is addict who has not yet found his way to freedom. I hope that he does one day soon, but right now, that must be a terrible thing to deal with. I must say, your description of the smell was quite a vivid one! I can smell him from here! LOL! :p Perhaps he would be willing to shower at night right before he goes to bed so he would not stink so badly? Is that a possibility? While it is very easy to take the moral high ground, and it's not wrong, just remember that you were there not too long ago yourself. Try to see where he's coming from too and that he might feel intimidated or alienated because of your quit. Be sensitive and ask him to be sensitive back. Try talking to him to see where he's coming from and how he feels about everything. Hope things work out for the best for you! Crave the Quit! Hi Chickstarr, Youre just going to have to fight like h___ to keep your quit. Im sure its hard to quit while someone in the house is smoking, but others have done it. I know Rusty and Lady quit with a smoker in the house. Just remember that YOU dont want to smell like that, and you sure dont want to have to go through hell, heck and blah weeks again! Use your NRT or ANYTHING that will keep you smoke free. Good luck. Not cravin', never cavin'.
