Thank you everyone for all the great advice today. I had an ok day but just couldn't seem to stay concentrated on my work, so my boss told me to go when I was ready. (((Cybrduke))) The reason why I think I should take the patch off before my laser treatment on Monday is because they say the laser takes away all those nasty thoughts and cravings for the cigs...well, if I leave the nicotine going into my system isn't that defeating the purpose of removing the withdrawal symptoms through the laser? I am not saying I will throw them into the garbage, maybe just keep one with me for later on Monday just in case this doesn't work...but for $300 IT BETTER WORK. I would like your opionion again on this Cybrduke. I am going to watch a movie with my hubby and will check back later. I got a good comedy (I hope) always looking for things to make me laugh right now. Take care all and thanks again. Darcy

Ok, went to work and had a good cry with my boss who demanded the cigs that I had bought and then was proud to hear that I soaked them in water and threw them away. My boss is an ex-smoker who realized one day that she wasn't going to smoke anymore and didn't have any withdrawal symptoms (amazing) but she is a recovering alcoholic and she understands that I am not ready to quit but my body is and it was the same with her and alcohol. She gave me a lot of good advice today and after an hour I was in my office gaining control of my workload that I haven't been able to do for over a week. Tomorrow I will spend a lot of time at work...I found it to be my salvation. After I screwed up this morning, I called the Laser Concepts (crying and the girl on the other end knew it)in the New Orleans area and told them I need an appointment as soon as possible (Monday at 9:20). As I said earlier in my writing, I took off my patch because I don't want to go through the withdrawals again when it is time for the patch to end, I will take it off Monday morning before my appointment. Any input on all of this would be appreciated. Just three weeks ago I said I didn't want to quit smoking, I enjoy it. Then I got sick, I knew on Monday when I threw away my cigarettes that I would feel better and I would want to smoke again. Maybe I really am not ready for this. There is such conflict going through my body right now...should I just go take my shower and put the patch on? Should I try this again and still claim my quit date as 6/12/06? What should I do? Darcy

Ok, I smoked two cigarettes, then put them in water, threw them in the garbage, took a Xanax, called and made an appointment for Monday at 9:20 for Laser Concept, took my shower, put on my patch and ready to begin anew. YES, I WANT TO QUIT. I just didn't want to go through the withdrawals again when it was time to end the patch as I so vividly remember when I quit in 1997. That is why I took the patch off, I just don't seem to have the willpower to go without it just yet. After Monday and my laser treatment, I will not put the patch on. If the laser does not work on Monday, Tuesday I will find a hypnotist. I WILL SUCCEED AND I WILL NOT LET THOSE TWO LOUSY CIGARETTES STAND IN MY WAY OF FREEDOM. I am still going to consider Monday the 12th as my quit date, with one little screw up along the way. NO MORE SCREW UPS. I am going into work for a little while today. Will check back with all my great friends this afternoon and let you know how I made out. Monday just can't come soon enough. Darcy

I didn't make it this morning. Went to the bathroom combed my hair and got in the car and went to the store and bought a pack of cigarettes. Smoked a cigarette and then cried for doing it. THIS SUCKS. I have to be quick with this reply, as i have only just seen it, and i am late for work. Ok first things first, there is NO such thing as failure. Each time you fail, yep you go right back to day one (again)back to day ones withdrawal, aragh I did this so many times this year. Over and over back to day one.I soon got sick of that. Stupid thing was even when I was smoking, i was thinking about when I would quit - again.I thought about that all the time, esp because cigarettes are so expensive in UK (about $9.28 dollars a pack!!). I dont know how much they are in US but I bet not that much huh? It isnt the price you pay for that packet, its all the subsequent packets to pay for the addiction... I look forward to hearing how you get on on Monday. How are you feeling today, are you back to the full time smoking? I am really pleased to hear that you have a supportive boss. You say you are not ready to quit. Yet you also say that you cried when you bought cigarettes? That does not make sense. Were you crying for joy? Or crying, that yet again that nicotine monster won... and you bought those filthy things again. There is no such thing as failure - as long as you learn. Stick with this board. Every time you have a terrible craving POST... that is what I did last night. Hence loads of long rambling posts..But I didnt smoke. Today is a new day and I am glad that i am not. I am with you on these patches. You quit on the same day as me, if you hadnt used the patches, the last of nicotine would have left your body yesterday. However, yesterday was a real bummer of a day. NEVER GIVE UP GIVING UP... that is the most important advice I can give you. We are all going through the same thing, but the result at the end has to be good... I just wish this board was here 3 years ago (or if it was, that i knew of it),.. I think I would have saved 3 years of smoking, how much more money did i spend, and how many more wrinkles did I gain because of it. I might be around less over the weekend, but I hope to see you back on the horse with me on Monday!! :o) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 83 Amount Saved: 20 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 4

Darcy, I know that it can seem like a failure, but it is not the end. Just pick up the pieces, and start again. Things are not always straight forward. You can read all websites, articles, etc on the stop smoking, do all the takes required, but in the end it is you that does the deed and sometimes the deed is too much. As one thing that was said, you fall to learn how to pick yourself back up. The good thing is, you have many hands to help you get back on your feet right here on this site. I found a pack of smokes the other day that I thought all of them were gone. It was in my desk drawer and I came so close to saying the hell with it and lighting up. But in my mind I knew that would be the biggest mistake, so I put them under the water and soaked them, and in the trash they went. Some people are strong, some are not as strong but in the end, we ALL can do things that we thought were impossible. IT is ok, slips happen, it is what you do afterwards that defines this action you are trying to do. Get back on your feet, talk to us, and realize, these things happen. Darcy im sorry i did not posted earlier I went through a tough time yesterday I am so sorry to hear that you slipped--however do not see your self as a failure or believe that you can not succeed in quitting. see this as a learning experience and go on-->DO YOU WANT TO BE SMOKE FREE?? Is the question you have to ask yourself first (of course all smokers really wish they never had started in the first place) OK> NOW!! Tell yourself that it will be hard the first days and then get easier I believe ( i made it to about 3 months as longest in these 26 years) DO not let that knowledge put you off now!! NO--see it as ok--it will be hard the first 2 weeks then easier--then maybe occassionally some hard days--and by about 100 days (what I did not now and according to postages in here it come a new time of craving about 3 months (100 days) what i had! If i knew that and had this support group in here and read peoples posts i would of been prepared.. Thats why you need to stay with us--to gain knowledge, support, and also have a feeling of that you can do it. To comment of my above writing of craving times-it could be different from person to person however it give you a sort of guideline as there are soo many in here that report the same. DARCY--start over again--you can do it--- I have smoked 26 years 30-44 a day given up approx 7-8 times Once made it to 3 months DO NOT LET THIS PUT YOU OFF --just letting you know how HEAVY ADDICTED I BEEN!! I still go through HELL some days--and if i didnt found this group on the net i would not have so many for support as i have now.. Please Darcy--start again and stay with us--YOU CAN DO IT!!! ann down under My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/6/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 431 Amount Saved: $143.1 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 21 Mins: 16 Seconds: 1

Fear of failure is one of the greatest fears people have. Fear of failure is closely related to fear of criticism and fear of rejection. Successful people overcome their fear of failure. Fear incapacitates unsuccessful people. The Law of Feedback states: there is no failure; there is only feedback. Successful people look at mistakes as outcomes or results, not as failure. Unsuccessful people look at mistakes as permanent and personal. Buckminster Fuller wrote, "Whatever humans have learned had to be learned as a consequence only of trial and error experience. Humans have learned only through mistakes." Most people self-limit themselves. Most people do not achieve a fraction of what they are capable of achieving because they are afraid to trybecause they are afraid they will fail. Take these steps to overcome your fear of failure and move yourself forward to getting the result you desire: Step One: Take action. Bold, decisive action. Do something scary. Fear of failure immobilizes you. To overcome this fear, you must act. When you act, act boldly. Action gives you the power to change the circumstances or the situation. You must overcome the inertia by doing something. Dr. Robert Schuller asks, "What would you do if you knew you could not fail?" What could you achieve? Be brave and just do it. If it doesnt work out the way you want, then do something else. But DO SOMETHING NOW. Step Two: Persist. Successful people just dont give up. They keep trying different approaches to achieving their outcomes until they finally get the results they want. Unsuccessful people try one thing that doesnt work and then give up. Often people give up when they are on the threshold of succeeding. Step Three: Dont take failure personally. Failure is about behavior, outcomes, and results. Failure is not a personality characteristic. Although what you do may not give you the result you wanted, it doesnt mean you are a failure. Because you made a mistake, doesnt mean that you are a failure. Step Four: Do things differently. If what you are doing isnt working, do something else. There is an old saying, "if you always do what youve always done, youll always get what you always got." If youre not ge
A 'CAN DO' ATTITUDE The difference between can and cannot are only three letters. Three letters that determine your life's direction. Being positive or negative are habits of thoughts that have a very strong influence on life. Positive and negative are directions. Which direction do you choose? Positive thinking is expecting, talking and visualizing with certainty what you want to achieve, as an accomplished fact. Riches, mediocrity and poverty begin in the mind. Reality is the mirror of your thoughts. Choose well what you put in front of the mirror. The mind is the decisive factor in your life, but who decides for the mind? A positive attitude brings strength, energy and initiative. To think negatively is like taking a weakening drug. Positive thoughts are not enough. There have to be positive feelings and positive actions. When you say, "I can't" and expect the worst, you become weak and unhappy. When you say "I can", and expect success, you fill yourself with confidence and happiness. You can close the windows and darken your room, and you can open the windows and let light in. It is a matter of choice. Your mind is your room. Do you darken it or do you fill it with light? Positive thinking and negative thinking are attitudes. They are points of view, and show the way people handle their affairs. Train your mind to think in terms of 'possible' and 'can be done'. When you have control over your thoughts, you have control over your life. Happy thoughts attract happy people into your life. Happy thoughts fill your life with happiness. When you change your habitual thoughts, it is like changing the direction of a train. Affirm the positive, visualize the positive and expect the positive, and your life will change accordingly. When there are difficulties and you feel down, this is the time to visualize, think and expect the positive. Do not let circumstances influence your thoughts and moods. By rising over them mentally, you will eventually rise over them materially. Fill your mind with light, happiness, hope, feelings of security and strength, and soon your life will reflect these qualities. Reading inspiring quotes uplifts the mind. Repeating inspiring quotes during the day, helps to cope better with with every situation
