I picked up a CardioRiderused for 15.00. I have been trying to get on it ever morning. I started out with 15 to 20 reps. I am up to 30 now. I am trying to work my way up to 10 to 20 min's at least 3 times a week. But I am starting slow. I had a CVA (stroke 3 yrs ago) I have finished 8 days no smoking, the wheezing has gone away. I can get on the rider and not get off totally winded.
Hang in there.. baby steps = success..

Misty,
You are doing great. I have a question. Where is all the energy i'm supposed to have. And how long will it take until I am not so short of breath.I know it took over 15year to get this way. But shoot I want to breath better. I WANT IT NOW :eg:says Varuca, lol.
Keep up the good job misty. addagirl

hey Misty,
I took my dog for a walk the other day. He started running, so I ran with him. We both loved it.I was out of breath but it was nice. I was thinking hey I should do this every day. Well the next day my legs were burning. I used to run when I was a kid, but since smoking came I did not do that. I wonder how long it will take to get endurance up. I would love to do that everyday but wow it was a challenge to breath. Maybe soon the endurance will come.
good job with the running, wow it is really funny how you do not run out of breath like you use to. I took my dog for a walk down hill was fine it is 1/2 mile going up hill straight up is another 1/2 mile and i use to stop 3 times to rest now I can go straight up with no resting. I think that in itself is a accomplishment.
keep up the good work everyone.

Good Going Misty,
Wish I could get out to a weekly exercise class... There is next to nothing near me that I can get to without needing a car to get home... Since I don't drive and Emma goes to bed at 8pm there is no chance I can get a lift home from my other half...
You are really tackling this quit with some amount of gusto..

Well,
I can confirm the extra lung capacity, I am asthmatic and have to blow into a meter every morning to see if I need to take my meds.. I have better lung capacity than I have had in 10 years. I certainly feel more energetic.. I kinda have that "I can take on the world" feeling.
Took the dog for a walk this morning, we walked my daughter to school and then went on an hour long walk. Felt great.. All before breakfast too (I can't eat early in the morning). The dog is pooped, and I am feeling fine!!!

Way ta go Misty...
And I know exactly where you got the exercise ideas from... LOL
I have been finding it hard to get the motivation together to get out and do some walking the past couple of weeks.. Weather has been pretty pooh and I would rather stay in the house.. But you know what?? You and the guys here have motivated me into getting off my fat fanny adams and get out there... I am back up to 11 stones and not liking it one little bit... feel like a slob..
So as of tomorrow morning me and the Dog will be joining you on the 15 minute walk.

Well, still walking the girls to the bus in the mornings, and this weekend I am going to a Belly Dance Intensive - all day class. this will be the first time that i've danced since I quit. I'm out of shape, and have gained wegiht, so i'm not expecting super stamina or anything..LOL.. but, i'm still really looking foreward to it. Afterwards getting to go to a Hafla, and be treeted with watching a bunch of other fabulous dancers being showcased.
I'm going to sign up for regular weekly classes again this september at the college, and am looking foreward to that as well. I missed most of the summer because my husband kept wrecking our cars. LOL.. i hope he's done.
