Help me this weekend!

I promise the one thing that will get me through tomorrow, if anything will be the thought of this board and the humiliation to have to come back tomorrow and say that i failed. I just cant postphone life. Parties happen, if i give it all up, I will just think that my exciting party lifestyle was gone because I had given up smoking, will think it is too much of a sacrifice and smoke again. I dont want to go there, I hope that this makes sense. Araggh its friday night. I am almost 3 weeks into my quit and to be honest, I havent really thought about smoking at all that much.. well not that much anyway most of the time I just get on with it. Tonight is friday, i was drinking baileys. Friday night is the time that I put on my workbook as somewhere I have ALWAYS failed... i dont have an answer apart from to not drink on the weekend.. but this party is going on. I either miss it... and whatever will I be any different in a few weeks anyway? I will probably get through tonight, I am just at my boyfriends anyway. Although it does seem a bit boring without smoking, its kind of like that bad girl stuff... you know i am drinking, smoking, weekend party, yada yada yada... thats the way that it is This time I have to change my mindset. Tomorrow I am in the biggest danger and I know it. Tomorrow night i have a party to go to. My boyfriend is a casual smoker, so can smoke when drinking and then stop after the weekend. He hasnt smoked at all... this is an all night thing, we are camping overnight as well... If I felt the way that i do right now, and was offered cigarettes... as I most certainly will be. How do i cope? how do i say no? I want to quit. I want to say no. BUt there is something about me, some bad girl image that likes to live it up for the weekend that just doesnt go away. Do I just not go to the party, dont drink then everything will be ok? I pROMISE I will think of you guys and that will be the one thing that will stop me from smoking...At least I hope so... If I do do it, please give me a big one for getting through it.. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. niks please let us know how you are doing? did you go? did you stay? I hope you are doing well. Please tell us how everything is going. In the first stages of a quit it is strongly suggested you avoid things that can trigger you and alcohol is one of the MAIN triggers. I am thinking of you this weekend and I am sending many blesings your way! Niks, If you do go, the smoke smelling bar will nauseate you anyway. That's all you will think about. Does not sound fun to me. Why don't you invite some non smokers over for the evening? Yea Butterfly Swimmer, Yea Shevie, Yea Healer. Niks - Listen to the great advice they put forth.
will I be any different in a few weeks anyway?
I asked myself this question not long ago, and the answer for me was YES!!! Look at my meter... so you can see the time frame of what and when this is all going on for me -since you're asking the same question... Listen to me, niks, I wanted to go on vacation -to the ocean where I always go, and I could NOT say that I would definitely not smoke, so ya know what??? I didn't go, and I don't until I KNOW for certain, that I am strong enough in my Quit to KNOW that I will not smoke. PERIOD. Now, you have asked for help today in 3 different threads, so obviously you know the answer to your question. I would rather miss a party, a vacation well just about anything, if it means me keeping my Quit. When I asked Lady why I was feeling the way I was about going to the ocean, she told me to wait till I was stronger in my Quit - and I am passing that wisdom on to you today (and that comes from someone celebrating a year today!) You have asked for help today, are you willing to really listen? niks, OK, here's the thing... personally, I don't think you should go... BUT - life goes on, whether you quit smoking or not and eventually you WILL have to face this sort of situation... but it might be better to wait until you're stronger. Only you know you. If you're thinking that maybe... just maybe, you might have "just one" if you're REALLY craving, then DON'T GO!!!!!!! It's better to wait a few weeks until you're stronger than to blow it now and ruin your momentum to continue on. Please don't do that!!! But, if you are 100% confident that you will not smoke, then go, BUT - do not go without preparation. First, print off a few posts that you know will keep you from smoking if you read them. Second, make sure you have gum, hard candy, licorice, etc... whatever your coping mechanisms are... handy. You're going to need them! Another thing is to keep yourself busy and occupied... if you can play pool or darts or something like that, I know that ALWAYS helps me keep my mind off of smoking when I'm in that situation. Any distraction techniques will definitely come in handy. So try to stay occupied as much as you can. Third, tell all of your friends not to give you a cigarette... no matter how much you beg! Hopefully, they will respect your wishes if you ask this of them. Fourth, and this is the most important thing, don't drink too much!!! One or two only. If you think that you cannot go and only have one or two, then don't go. This is the most important step, so no fudging on this step... it's either a couple or don't go!!!! I am speaking from personal experience here... coming from somebody who threw away 133 days on my meter because I had a few too many to drink, I don't want to see you do the same thing! So please, don't drink too much. Only you know if you're strong enough to handle this situation without smoking or not. Please, don't throw your quit away for one night of drinking and partying... it's not worth it! I hope you make the decision that is best for you. Crave the Quit! I just replied to your other thread before I read this one, niks. Healer is right. Your best option is to not go to the party at all. Your second best option is to go to the party, but not drink. There really isn't any option beyond that. Any other would place you into very dangerous territory. Read Pam's post several times. She's been through exactly what your setting yourself up for. Trust her, it ain't fun. Why can't you postpone life? Postpone means put off, delay, not stop completely. Don't you think postponing for a few months is better than ending early by several years? Can't you realize that not partying for a few months is not the end of the world? If you can't hold off on partying until your quit is strong enough to survive a night out, perhaps you have addictions beyond just nicotine.
