niks,
OK, here's the thing... personally, I don't think you should go... BUT - life goes on, whether you quit smoking or not and eventually you WILL have to face this sort of situation... but it might be better to wait until you're stronger. Only you know you. If you're thinking that maybe... just maybe, you might have "just one" if you're REALLY craving, then DON'T GO!!!!!!! It's better to wait a few weeks until you're stronger than to blow it now and ruin your momentum to continue on. Please don't do that!!!
But, if you are 100% confident that you will not smoke, then go, BUT - do not go without preparation. First, print off a few posts that you know will keep you from smoking if you read them. Second, make sure you have gum, hard candy, licorice, etc... whatever your coping mechanisms are... handy. You're going to need them! Another thing is to keep yourself busy and occupied... if you can play pool or darts or something like that, I know that ALWAYS helps me keep my mind off of smoking when I'm in that situation. Any distraction techniques will definitely come in handy. So try to stay occupied as much as you can. Third, tell all of your friends not to give you a cigarette... no matter how much you beg! Hopefully, they will respect your wishes if you ask this of them. Fourth, and this is the most important thing, don't drink too much!!! One or two only. If you think that you cannot go and only have one or two, then don't go. This is the most important step, so no fudging on this step... it's either a couple or don't go!!!! I am speaking from personal experience here... coming from somebody who threw away 133 days on my meter because I had a few too many to drink, I don't want to see you do the same thing! So please, don't drink too much.
Only you know if you're strong enough to handle this situation without smoking or not. Please, don't throw your quit away for one night of drinking and partying... it's not worth it! I hope you make the decision that is best for you.
Crave the Quit!
Pam
