Milaya, Each smoker has different withdrawal symptoms indeed yours will be unique! Although they may be unpleasant, they do pass. When you experience withdrawal symptoms, remind yourself that each symptom is a sign of recovery. Your body is in the process of healing itself. Think of withdrawal symptoms as growing pains. You need to come up with a plan! When a craving sets in, think about what are you going to do or what you can do to not give in! Try writing down some coping techniques to particular scenarios. For example, the house is clean there is nothing to do and the cravings kicks in. You have already eaten and you are in a state of panic. Try leaving the house, go for a walk, call a friend, jump on the site, have a shower. Anything that takes your mind off of temptation is beneficial. Quitting smoking is not easy and that is why we are here! We are here to help you learn on how to quit smoking and be successful. You can do this! Keep us posted and be sure to jump back on the site to let us know how you have coped with your cravings. We all learn from each other! Take care and congrats on quitting smoking, Melanie __________________ The SSC Support Team

Ok major craving going on right now. About an hour ago it was so bad that I sent my son to my neighbors house to ask for a cigarette...fortunately she was out. Then the battle between M.E. and me started. "It'd be so easy to drive to the store and buy some", M.E. says. "I'd only smoke one and if I need a smoke tomorrow I'd smoke 1 then too". "No", I say to M.E. "Chew the gum". Chewing, chewing, the craving subsides but ohhh I really could just take one drag...no, no, no. Dang it M.E. stop it, go away!!! M.E. says, "who cares if I smell, who cares if I have to start all over, we're not perfect". No, no, no....I WILL NOT SMOKE, I WILL NOT SMOKE, I WILL NOT SMOKE!!

Milaya that is great--you are using the self talk, and you are right, things will NOT improve if you go get a smoke or take a puff...N.O.P.E. You are part of C.A.R.E. now too, and that means we are all here for you. You also cared enough to post here before lighting up, so get yourself busy reading HERE and then read THIS HERE OK??? Shevie has good advice there--usually a wooden chair is alright with a little salt and possible some countertop with confection sugar but don't overdo the salt or the sugar. Watch the splinters in the wood too, and be careful with the corners on the countertops. I don't think I have to watch ghost stories anymore...I get enough scares coming in here!!!! :8o: My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 78 Amount Saved: $27 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 19 Mins: 51 Seconds: 6

Have a stress ball? Try slamming it against the wall and catching it, just concentrate on that and tell yourself no, no, no cigarettes. It's fun and aggressive and reinforces no smoking. a tennis ball works too but it's harder to control. I broke a clock. Good luck!!! Protect your quit, no matter what! Go buy something, you deserve it! On second thought, maybe you shouldn't go anywhere. It does get better!!! You really don't want to smoke, it's the addict talking. Thinking of you!
