Need some thought on Hookah Bars!

18 years ago 0 962 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Lgray - Why do you think that this is not smoking? Because the water is filtering the smoke? Because the tobacco is flavored? In my day it was called a bong! LOL! I would think that the tobacco smoke is stronger going into your system because you have all the people around you smoking the same hookah - more tobacco, more smoke, and more cancer going into your lungs. Stay away from there! Cigarettes Not Smoked

As so many have said. Smoking is smoking is smoking. Tobacco is tobacco is tobacco. I know for me I couldn't do it. I can barely be around the people who smoke outside of the restaurants or on the patios that I have been. Do what you will, I would take a pass. lgray, I've never heard of a Hookah Bar either, but now that I do, I'd have to give you a big thumbs down on going there. Like everyone else says, smoking is smoking. You definately don't want to put your quit into harms way. You and your friends should plan another event together. Igray, I don't think it's "hard core" to say "an ex-smoker doesn't smoke." DUH! If you want to be an ex-smoker, then you MUST refrain from any tobacco... whether it be in cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco or hookahs. I don't think saying that is hard core... I think it's practical and logical! As for going and not smoking, I hope that you can do that successfully. That's going to be a hard challenge and if you don't think so, then you're fooling yourself! Please, if you go, go prepared! This IS the strongest addiction there is and the toughest one to fight! I don't want to see you fall to a tough temptation. BUT, if you can make it smoke free, then by all means... go and have a good time. Crave the Quit! I just saw this here... I replied in the main forum and then came and saw all the responses saying exactly what I just said there, so I won't repeat myself or everyone else, but I just want to say that I think it's a VERY bad idea and could have horrible consequences to your quit. Thinking that it's OK to smoke "hookah" is just junkie talk. Don't listen! Crave the Quit! Igray, if your friends don't believe nicotine is addictive, have them Google "nicotine addiction". If the tons of medical research done on this doesn't convince them, nothing can. If you think you can spend time in a smoky environment without danger of smoking, then go ahead. But realize that you will be breathing second-hand smoke which does contain nicotine. That nicotine will enter your brain and may reactive some of the addiction processes. Even if you do not react that evening, you may experience some problems over the following next few days; a mini-withdrawal. Then there is the issue of the smell clinging to you. I spent several minutes with smokers on an outside patio. All day long I thought I could smell it on me, but just thought it was my imagination. That evening my wife could smell it, too, so it was really on me all day. If there is tobacco, there is nicotine. Any flavors are additional, like the menthol in menthol cigs. Oh and one other thing, smoking is smoking. If you've quit, you've quit. Smoking at the bar would not be acceptable. being there and refraining would, but again, I think it's a poor choice. I don't think it's off limits, but you need to realize the whole atmosphere is smoking related. The whole idea of the bar is to smoke with other smokers. I understand your desire to be out with your friends but maybe that's just not the right place for you anymore. You've moved beyond it don't you think? If it were me, I'd leave that night behind as part of my quit and find other activities to enjoy with my friends. Just my humble opinion. Lgray, you've given up smoking and now you want our permission to go smoke? Tobacco is tobacco, no matter the method of delivery. Either you're using or you're not. It's your decision. I can almost guarantee that you can kiss your quit goodbye if you have the attitude that it's no big deal. Perhaps you need to do a little more study on the nature of addiction. IGray, Don't lose your quit for this, abstain! Take the time to bring a coping mechanism with you and you can beat this. It is your choice, but protect your quit at all costs. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
