Need some thought on Hookah Bars!

18 years ago 0 30 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I would say no on the Hookah bar. I'm new here, myself. I keep seeing people saying N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever). I think that would apply to any kind of tobacco.

OK I agree, smoking is smoking and if you wish to succeed you will have to figure out another way to pass the time My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 34 Amount Saved: $6.75 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 17 Seconds: 51

What is a hookah bar? Never heard of it. m-

So I was invited to an outing with a group of friends. This set of friends and I had been to this little bar called Juggling Gypsy on a handful of occasions. This bar is also a HOOKAH bar! And that's something we have done in the past, my smoking and non-smoking friends alike, we will all share a hookah with flavored tobacco. Luckily, the other night we did not go b/c everyone couldn't make it, so we rescheduled, so I've been given some time to really process this possiblity. But, my ? is: Are Hookahs off limits to me now? I'm torn, it's not a big deal, but I gave it some thought and on one side I'm like, yeah, I shouldn't anymore, I don't want to miss smoking cigs, the other side of it, I'm like it's a social activity that I will do once in a blue moon - and it's not like I will go out and start smoking again, or will I? Thoughts, thoughts, please!

Wow, you guys are hard-core. Hey, yeah - I live in NC and while I myself have chosen to not smoke I don't think no matter what I do I am going to escape people who smoke - 3/4 of my friends smoke, and they're not "bad" people. Just nasty, dirty smokers... ha ha.... So, really I'm not going to focus on 2nd had smoke, etc. That's just a fact life here in the "tobacco" state. And I don't think that my friends >don't< think nicotine is addictive, they just are skeptical of the hard-coreness of my "addict mantra" and while I enjoy the support here, I'm getting a bit freaked about it, too. I am happy I am a non-smoker and feel really good about it, but it's like... I don't know I'm not going to join "Nicotine Anonymous" about it either....But whatever gets you threw the day, right?

Hi All, Thanks for your comments! Yeah, see, when I was invited I didn't even think about it at first, because it's not just a hookah bar, in fact, I've been there, and there are fire twirlers, belly dancers, DJ's, open mic nights, and it's a small place, could only fit like 20 people comfortably - so it's not like everyone will always have a hookah at their table necessarily (especially not the regulars, they are so over that!) So I don't associate it with just hookah smoking... But, when my friend mentioned, "Oh, hey, we could get Saki and a Hookah!" I was like, hookah=smoking... Wait? That's probably not good - and I told him, "I'll go, but I won't smoke the hookah" and he asked why, and I told him all the "I've realized that I am an addict stuff, I can't do it b/c I'm not a normal non-smoker I am and addict to nicotine etc." He and his friend got really interested in my response, And they think that when you give up one addiction (ie smoking) you pick up another (ie the "I am addict" mantra) And well, it kind of made me mad! They thought I was silly to label myself an "addict". And, honestly, I mean, this quit hasn't been that hard for me, so I'm like, "Am I an addict?" And it' really less the desire to smoke (which I have no problem being in resturants, hanging outside the library, and even bars, Yes bars without having the desire to smoke and I live in North carolina where EVEYRONE smokes ha ha) It's more the desire to be out with my friends - doing something we've always done. This is a group that only gets together once a month on Tuesday nights, and we don't always go to the Hookah bar, but I would hate to miss that once a month Tuesday! (Next Tuesday) So, against some of your advice - I'm going to go - I'm going to refrain from smoking b/c you guys are right that it is tobacco and nicotine (which I didn't know if nicotine was in the flavored tobacco either). But, I just want to be true to my quit. I wasn't not "asking your permission to smoke" I was asking what you thought on the concept of a non-smoker visiting a hookah bar. Thanks ya'll Text

A Hookah is usually a decorative ceramic bowl, in many shapes and colors, that holds water in the base and has several tubes coming out of the base. Atop the Hookah is a tray where there is a hole directly under it (with a screen to keep the tobacco from falling through to the water below). The tobacco is burned in the tray. Each smoker grabs a tube and pulls the smoke down the tube, through the water and into their lungs. Its still considered smoking folks! Igray, The stuff you put in the tray at Hookah bars, to burn in the Hookah, is still tobacco. It may be flavored and all, but it still has the nicotine and other chemicals going into your system. Just because the smoke gets filtered through water via the tubing, doesn't mean the smoke gets 'washed' of its harmful substances. I would think this is dangerous for ya as an ex-smoker.
