Hi All,
Thanks for your comments! Yeah, see, when I was invited I didn't even think about it at first, because it's not just a hookah bar, in fact, I've been there, and there are fire twirlers, belly dancers, DJ's, open mic nights, and it's a small place, could only fit like 20 people comfortably - so it's not like everyone will always have a hookah at their table necessarily (especially not the regulars, they are so over that!) So I don't associate it with just hookah smoking...
But, when my friend mentioned, "Oh, hey, we could get Saki and a Hookah!" I was like, hookah=smoking... Wait? That's probably not good - and I told him, "I'll go, but I won't smoke the hookah" and he asked why, and I told him all the "I've realized that I am an addict stuff, I can't do it b/c I'm not a normal non-smoker I am and addict to nicotine etc."
He and his friend got really interested in my response, And they think that when you give up one addiction (ie smoking) you pick up another (ie the "I am addict" mantra) And well, it kind of made me mad! They thought I was silly to label myself an "addict". And, honestly, I mean, this quit hasn't been that hard for me, so I'm like, "Am I an addict?"
And it' really less the desire to smoke (which I have no problem being in resturants, hanging outside the library, and even bars, Yes bars without having the desire to smoke and I live in North carolina where EVEYRONE smokes ha ha) It's more the desire to be out with my friends - doing something we've always done. This is a group that only gets together once a month on Tuesday nights, and we don't always go to the Hookah bar, but I would hate to miss that once a month Tuesday! (Next Tuesday)
So, against some of your advice - I'm going to go - I'm going to refrain from smoking b/c you guys are right that it is tobacco and nicotine (which I didn't know if nicotine was in the flavored tobacco either). But, I just want to be true to my quit.
I wasn't not "asking your permission to smoke" I was asking what you thought on the concept of a non-smoker visiting a hookah bar.
Thanks ya'll
