I want to be a social smoker

18 years ago 0 537 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hmmmm... Very Interesting Posts! My God, I would love to be one of those people that "Social Smoke". I have family and friends that can do it. I believe for them it's never getting addicted to Nicotine. They smoke sometimes even a pack a night while out drinking, then go months without one. I KNOW I CAN'T DO THAT!!! One smoke... and I'm screwed, that I do know. As for that security pack in your purse, it's whatever works for you. I still have packs laying around... but I've been staring them down for over two weeks now. (I keep telling my wife to smoke them) Good Luck EGGOGO! Hah- I remember people smoking on the dance floor and accidently burning people by bumping into them with too many drinks and a lit cigarette in hand. What slobs we were! And then wondering why (the non-smokers) got pissed. Smokers just seemed to regard it as clumsy, but forgiveable behavior. I'm still a little confused......... What is the benefit?? Doesn't 1 cig have as many toxins as another? Why poison your body each time you "socially smoke"? Is it because you think you have a better time? I dont know....... but for me, if I want to smoke, then dammit, I will smoke. I'm still in control right? I decide if I want to smoke.. thats my choice, so yes, I still am in control. But, if I decide that I do not want to smoke, then I wont. Aint no nicodemon gonna take that choice away from me no more.......... BTW, why smoke at all? Egg, "I want to be a social smoker and only smoke when traveling." What??? What??? Read your words again, Egg - this makes absolutely no sense. You only want to smoke while traveling... What??? OK - now, when you listen to your own words, are they really your words, or is that just the junkie talking? I am definitely not one to try to dictate what someone else should do or decide - my intention is to say to you what I would hope someone would say to me if I were you right now:) Hello...? I have been hedging around posting on this thread. I don't understand about social smoking. And I know that for me I can not even entertain the idea. I am an addict. I can not smoke one, I smoke a pack a carton. In fact in my my smoking career I smoked 262800 cigarettes give or take a couple of dozen. I did that in Europe, I did it in the American south, I did it in NYC and in LA, I did it in Montreal and Vancouver, Tokyo and Hong Kong. All of it was social and all of it was rooted in what for me is actually anti social behaviour. I can not imagine smoking on an commercial airline flight, and I did. I can not imagine smoking in a closed car, and I did. I can not imagine smoking on a disco club dance floor and I did. Point is the smoking got me no closer to people, didn't make me any friends and only caused an unroar if I didn't brush my teeth or wear enough cologne to kinda drown out the stench of the smoke. I don't get that smoking is social. The thought of smoking together is simply one addict trying to find comfort with other addicts. Usually huddled together in the cold or wind or rain, pushed outside and barracaded away from the rest of the world. I am glad I am quit and that I just don't smoke. For me, I can not mend the fence while I am sitting on it. I am either on or off. I know that I can not smoke one. OMG it would be like eating one grain of rice or one peanut. Good Luck. As far as I am concerned you either smoke or you don't smoke! 'social smoker' almost makes it sound acceptable! what it really boils down to is how many you smoke and I don't think that say 5 a day is ok but 15 a day isn't. BTW I would get rid of that pack in your purse because it will burn a hole and drive you crazy until you smoke them!! 22 days is great BTW. I am sure that I will get over smoking. I am also sure that I will never be a social smoker. Saying that I will wait 5 years is meaningless.. it is just something to pacify.. But on a lighter note that.. I like the idea..the fantasy.. that's all. It's like someone else posted... You can try to be a social smoker and constantly be fighting ...the withdrawal.. over and over again.. Or.. you can quit.. get over it... and live without the fight. I think the fantasy is great.. but, the reality is what I will choose. Damn those people with that recessive gene and my fantasy.. lol Christine My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 55 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,399 Amount Saved: $192.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 22 Mins: 12 Seconds: 5
