I'm quiting on june first and one of my fears is that if I don't let my kids smoke in my house, they won't want to come see me as much. We have big smoking partys I guess you might say. But they are so busy, that maybe they will choose not to come as much, because they won't have as good a time. We really have a lot of fun smoking and talking. (we don't drink thank goodness)

smokingsux and other supporters: today was a really good day. i did an hour long workout and my fiance and i talked, and he has been smoking outside now. i let him know AGAIN how serious i was about it, and how selfish and disrespectful he was being. i think it almost hurt his feelings because he thought i would leave him over it. i told him that is not the case. if he wants to smoke that is his choice, but he just needs to consider other people's feelings when he lights up. also, i talked to my dad last night. we just reunited for those of you who didn't know, after 8 long years. he told me about how his father died. he had smoked his whole life and got throat cancer. they said it was so bad they were going to remove his voicebox. when he heard the news, he decided to stop taking his treatments. he said he would rather die than not be able to talk the rest of his life. he was only 40 when he died. i told my fiance the story and i could tell it made him think about it a little more than usual. he is already 30, so i think he realized how close that was to his age. anyway, i feel great about my quit. trust me, it wasn't all roses. i had my day 1&2 breakdown of crying and eating, and i'm sure i'll have more. for the most part, i am just happy i can breathe again! thanks for your concern. how are the rest of you? jane ;p

yesterday was my first quit day. i made it, but it wasn't easy. i asked my fiance to quit smoking in the house, but he did anyway. then he would ask stuff like-"do you want me to pick up a diet coke for you while i'm out?" he knows i only drink pop when i'm smoking. i don't know why-they just go together for me. so i had all of these temptations, but i made it through. you should have seen me. i was just sitting on the couch, staring at the walls like "what now". i need to get motivated and find something to do. i know all of this is normal, but i just needed to vent about it. this site really helps by just letting you get it all out. thanks so much to everyone who is listening. jane :confuse:

thank you so much for all of your support! i don't want my fiance to affect my quit, and i won't let him! i have asked him over and over to quit. i even told him that he was killing his 7yr old son and he was like-"oh, he's fine" and i told him that was a bunch of crap because his son is constantly covering his nose and mouth and my fiance smokes with him in the car too. his son will beg him to put a cigarette out because he can't breathe and my fiance will say okay, but still finishes the cigarette with his son right there. my fiance admits to being selfish when i call him that, but he has another side too. he's not all bad. he sometimes breaks down to me that he wants to quit for health reasons, but he has no will power and he works in a bar half of every week. my fiance will give you every excuse why he can't quit, and that's the hardest part. i hate threatening things like not being around him, but i told him yesterday that that's how it will have to be for now. he works evenings the rest of the week until sunday, so at least the house will be smoke-free in the evenings! again, thanks for your support. i feel like i'm really making friends here and that feels great! jane  ;p

Hi Jane, When I was a smoker I would think of things that I was going to do someday. Of course while I was smoking that someday never came because I was too busy smoking. I would think of things like: riding my brand new bike that was just sitting there collecting dust, taking the kids to the park more often, starting a hobby, remodeling something in my house, the list goes on and on. What are some things you have thought of doing, but haven't? Hi Jane, I'm another May starter - 16th. So I'm 11 days smoke free now. I can really sympathise with your first few days - I found it very difficult but luckily my husband gave up on the same day (which made for a happy household - NOT). I really admire you for not giving in to such temptation. If you can stand strong for that then you'll be able to cope with anything. My husband David has slipped a few times in the past 11 days and had a cigarette - but never while I'm around. I'm really scared that if David smokes when I'm around then I'll cave in too. You will be my inspiration to stay strong! Cheers chickstarr :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 348 Amount Saved: $137.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 15 Mins: 28 Seconds: 30

Jane, I don't know if you would like your fiance to quit smoking too, but I have a tip for you. Instead of thinking as smoking as something you are giving up, think of it is gaining something, your health, self-respect, life expectancy. Now, be happy with your decision. Do not mope. Get out there and embrace it! Your fiance will see that you are happy to be free of nicotine and the chances are, he will want to quit too, when you make it seem easy. Instead of behaving like your best friend died, act like you just won the lottery. Go through the motions even if you don't feel it. You will begin to believe it. Rejoice. You are free of nicotine. You are not choking yourself anymore. You do not smoke. Your fiance is still killing himself. Free him too with your attitude. Be strong, stay strong. Mind over matter.
