Hi Jane, Glad to hear your quit is going well. I am also glad to hear your fiance is being supportive of your quit by smoking outside so you won't be tempted. You might want to think about how to eliminate your access to his cigarettes as well for when your cravings are strong. Do you think you'd be able to resist? If so, great! If not, maybe start planning for that now. Keep persevering! My hubby smokes and he does go outside now if I ask him but sometimes he stands at the door and I just walk away form him. Today though I told him what I really thought. Half way through my son's hosptial appt and we were waiting for an x-ray, my hubby disappeared, when he came back he said he had nipped out for a cig ( he only had one an hour earlier ) I told him he was sad and pathetic that he put cigs before our son and told him he might as well go back outside as he wasn't coming in to see the consultant stinking like an ashtray!! I think it has really hit hime now and he has set a quit date and apologised and agreed that he acted like an idiot. As for getting motivated, even just getting the cupboards cleaned, grass cut etc is removing you from those walls - it is what I do and I feel that i have achieved something that I wouldn't have done before because a smoke would have come first. Its hard, I feel empty right now. Not to be a downer but want you to know that I know how you feel! From what I hear it gets worse before it gets better....I am hoping I am at the bottom right now! My hubby smokes still too and I find that I am angry at him because he CAN have a smoke. I know that is completely irrational but that is how I feel. I want you to know that I am here for you and with you to get through this! WE can do it!!! I'm not sure why..... I assume now that I was jealous. But why I would go to that measure to help my friends lose their quit, is beyond me. I agree with what smokingsux said. Never think that quitting smoking is something you have to do. This is something you CHOOSE to do. Your choices are bringing you health, life, and healing. It is a wonderful thing you are doing. Even if you don't feel "wonderful" right away, try as hard as you can to fake it. I guarentee you will trick your mind into believing it. Keep positive thoughts. Drink tons of water. Clean you house to rid that smell. Go for a walk. Take deep breaths. Eat hard candies. Sign up for a Yoga or Pilates class. Go for a bike ride. The more positive things you add into your life right now, the smoother the ride will be. Make this a chance to start over with your health and life. DO make sure you find info on second hand smoke. He is hurting his son in so many ways. I would never smoke around my girls, however, they did enter the garage, and the smoke is still there. So I did the same thing as your fiance. Just to a different degree. When my oldest daughter was 2, she developed asthma. Boy, I wonder why.................... I also developed asthma. I didn't stop smoking until 1 year later. Here in So California, asthma amongst children is an epidemic. Almost everyone I know has some sort of asthma. Asthma is scarey. Do some research on that too. That is possibly where he is taking his son to. I feel really bad for his son. To have to choke to breathe when he is with his father. That is really sad....................... Jane - It might be good to do some online research about second hand smoke and let your boyfriend read it. Please tell him again that he is not to smoke in the house anymore. It is killing you literally, not to mention if you have any pets. It kills them as well. The smoke gets on their fur and then they lick it and that nicotine goes straight into their system. Their systems are too small to handle all that garbage. My husband has continued to smoke after I quit but he now has to smoke in the very front of the front yard or in the way back of the back yard. I just told him that he had to deal with it. Was he going to leave me because I wouldn't let him smoke on the porch anymore? No. That would be stupid. So he had to agree. I asked him not to tempt me anymore - why would he sabotage me and help me kill myself with smoking? He saw how silly that was. So he has stopped smoking around me. I don't think I've seen him smoke 10 cigs since I have been quit. Drink plenty of water...me, I drink seltzer water...it seems to satify that "pop" fizz and is better for me AND it seems to help the cravings. Instead of just sitting on the couch, get motivated and take a walk, ride your bike, and get in and clean all that nasty smoke off your walls, floors, carpets and windows. Scrub until you can't scrub anymore. Then bring in great smelling candles and scents to replace that yucky cig smell. AS long as you want to quit more than you want to smoke you can make this work. Don't use your fiance smoking as an excuse to blow your quit! You are doing a great job! The first days are the hardest and I promise you they get better! Jane, Way to go with being strong. I know it's horrendously tough even without a smoker nearby, so KUDOS to you! How can anybody refuse a rational and polite request to be respectful in their attitudes and behavior regarding your quit? Try not to get mad, but get more logical and simply ask for the respect. He's the one doing something you would rather he do somewhere else, because I'm sure your breathing fresher air isn't harming him. Lol! You can do it, Jane~! It's still may, and that makes you a May'er. There are a couple threads out there for May Company, and that includes you! There are at least 8 or more other May'ers to cheer you on, and you will find that your cheering section is so much more than that. It's almost overwhelming sometimes. The support and encouragement is a spiritual elixir that flows here like water! DRINK DEEP! Remember, the body is the temple that houses your soul for this life's journey. Hi, Jane. Everything they said up there. If there are things you have to do without for a while, then do without them. Among other things, I had to stop going outside while at work, and sitting on the back porch reading while at home. Those were two very big smoking times for me. I did not give them up, just put them on hold for a while. The outside breaks at work resumed in a few days, but the sitting outside at home I didn't take back up until early this year. Everything in it's own time, Jane. Priority one is to break this addiction, whatever it takes. Jane....it's true that you must put yourself first in this situation...your quit is your number ONE priority. it's nice that the bf has agreed to smoke outside......but remember Jane, You can't shame, bully, beg or threaten someone into quitting. You can't focus on HIS smoking....you have to focus on YOUR quit....this isn't about whether he quits or smokes....this is about YOU. and there are plenty of us here that quit with smokers...both inside and out. It really doesn't matter if he blows smoke in your face....what will happen depends on "you". concentrate on your quit....forget about harping at him in any way shape or form.....it only makes 'smoking' the center of attention.....and you must make 'quitting' the center of your universe at this point. when he lights up and you feel tempted to say something.....well, then say something about how great it feels to control your OWN actions. Don't attack his actions.....praise your own.
