Hi joonie, I have also been dealing with the same issues as yourself. I know it is very frustrating for yourself and for your hubby. I keep telling myself and my hubby it will get better and It is with time. I have asked my hubby to get me threw these times by. 1. giving me space when I need it. 2. allow me to vent and try not to take it personal. 3. start to reward yourself even if its somthing small and cheap. 4. post and vent here. (Thats what I do :)) 5. Most important!! Allow yourself to cry when needed and get alot of rest. I have slept more in the last month than I ever have. Your body is healing and needs alot of rest and water. Hi Joonie, Hey - You're doing fabulous. Regarding your hubby, maybe ask him what he did when he used to get cravings, it may jog his mind back to that time in his life when it was tough for him to get through one day of not smoking. Maybe he will remember chomping on toothpicks or licorice! I often recommend writing in a journal, that way if you want to "say" some really nasty things, you write them all down, read it back to yourself tear it up and NOBODY is injured. This works to vent things out when a lot of bad language is involved. If the language is not to bad and you just want to kick up a huge fuss, that's what we are here for - as they say, BRING IT ON. *SMILE* Congrats on your 8 days!!!! THANK YOU everyone for the great advice. All are very good points! I am sure that I am being an ABSOLUTE BEAR to live with. Really, I try to remain positive (atleast some of the time) by asking him to go for walks with me, out to dinner, etc. I am going print your responces to share with him and maybe open up a more positive dialog?!? That is as soon as we start speaking to each other again, most likely later on today. I think we just need a break from each other and because we have no other rooms in the house to go into for privacy, we take a break from forcing communication until our upset feelings pass. I think I should have included him more from the beginning of my quit by showing him this website and inviting him to be more a part of it if he wanted to. I actually have rewarded myself by buying an elliptical machine (a cheap one)and exercising everyday while listening to 'Learn Spanish' CD's that I purchased last year. I put the machine on our front porch (no room inside) and so as long as it doesn't rain, I am good to go in that department. I need to remind myself to keep looking at the big picture (for lack of a better expression, no brain power at this point), I know this quit is the best thing that I can do for myself and I intend to stick with it. I'm on my eighth day of not smoking and even though the cravings are not as intense, they are more steady. Kind of through-out the day, so very annoying and making me very cranky. So, my husband thinks I should have a cig. Not exactly what I wanted to hear from him. I tried to make a deal with him by asking him to be as patient with me as possible for the next 2 weeks, that it is going to be a little bumpy and I would love any support. Oh well, I just don't think he realizes how important this is to me. He hasn't smoked in many, many years and so am sure he has forgotten all the emotions that come with quitting. Any suggestions on getting the support that I would like to have from him? Especially before one of us moves out.. By the way, it doesn't help that we basically live in a one room cottage. The only room with a door is the bathroom and it can get pretty boring in there. Thanks for letting me rant. Joonie

Hi joonie, Perhaps he doesn't understand that smoking is an 'addiction.' Some members print out posts from the SSC and give them to family and friends to read. You might use the 'search' feature in here and look for post that you feel could help him to better understand your current condition. Hang tough and 'we' DO understand so feel free to vent your frustrations here anytime/everytime. Joonie, You can expect to feel nicotine withdrawal symptoms after you quit smoking. However, they usually improve after the first three or four days, depending on your level of nicotine addiction. Each smoker has different withdrawal symptoms yours will be unique. Although they may be unpleasant, they do pass. When you experience withdrawal symptoms, remind yourself that each symptom is a sign of recovery. Your body is in the process of healing itself. Think of withdrawal symptoms as growing pains. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, please speak with your doctor. As for your husband, this is just as hard on him as you. You and your family are going through change. Try to avoid these comments that he is making to you. This is your quit and this is a decision that you have made to improve the health of yourself and your family.
