Have an *issue*............Husband caved

freedomforme, Ditto here...same thing happened to me 1982 (my 10-yr quit beore my divorce)...when I found out he was still smoking...man I was mad! but...knowing that the addiction is our own, I knew I could not control his. So...I remained smokless "To spite Him", and just told him he would have to smoke outside. That was unheard of back then, you know the saying that a man's home is his castle? The neighbors thinking...what a shame the king has to smoke outside, laughing at him....(that was back then). Recently I drove down the old neighborhood, and noticed the kings outside all the way down the block..."smoking outside"! Tee-Hee Women are the stronger spieces you know? Stay fierce in your determination to be a Non-smoker... YOU CAN DO IT!!! auntdeb  My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,813 Amount Saved: $171 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 23 Mins: 45 Seconds: 55

new to site: 42 days done with ...

Cathyo, I think what we have to realize here, is that now...while we are taking the Chantix...we need to rev up our moods by doing things that bring us pleasure. Also physical excersize helps increase serotonin, melatonin, and our metabolism. Exercise at the right time of day can produce a very restful sleep in the evening. (don't do it right after supper...in the morning or early afternoon is best Depression is masked by nicotine...and sometimes unknown to us smokers has been a self-medicating substance. Alas, we may need a Doctor or counselor to help intervene to get us back on track for a few months after Chantix... We are becoming new people...and our activities will reflect this too. We are shedding that old habit. It's time for change. auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,838 Amount Saved: $171 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 1 Mins: 24 Seconds: 12

smokin' dreams....

Kristen, don't want to scare you but when I quit a long time ago, I had nightmares of smoking "years after I quit". I would actually wake up with a sore throat, I had been puffing so hard in my sleep. yeagh, but don't worry...they will go away...and maybe yours won't be like that....auntdeb ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,835 Amount Saved: $171 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 1 Mins: 14 Seconds: 22

Cravings that don't want to go away

freemom, I'm using Chantix too...and wanted to give you my imput. You know, you can't keep smoking not even one puff... for the cravings to subside. and it's only been a few days for you, so you will have them for a few weeks. Just keep this in mind,if you were going cold turkey...you would be going bonkers right now for a smoke. You are having a little crav ing, and probably fairly often...but I can tell you that most of it can be overcome with just deep breaths or drinking water. and more importantly...your desire to be a Non-smoker will be the driving force to overcome the craves and triggers... you must become the master of the thoughts behind the craves. What is the emotion driving the crave...anger, anxiety, frustration, do you want to say something to someone that you just can't say for fear you'll create a scene? look honestly into the emotion you are feeling when this crave hits. With each cigarette we do not smoke, it fuels our inner ego with confidence to be more assertive in dealing with others and ourselves. I haven't read Allen Carr's book, I just happen to be a 10 year quitter who went through all of the drama quitters experience. I did it cold-turkey too (the hardest way, Chantix makes quitting a breeze...at least for me...because the memories of the past are too vivid) You just hang in here...you can do this, minute by minute...hour by hour, and day by day...until one day in the near future...you will not crave and you will be absolutely delighted...when you exclaim "Hey Everybody, I'M A NON-SMOKER...I NO LONGER CRAVE CIGARETTES....THEY STINK...WHY DID I EVER SMOKE IN THE FIRST PLACE? I am hearing a lot about attitude changing, and it is very true here. We are changing ourselves inside and out...and it starts with attitude...auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,835 Amount Saved: $171 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 1 Mins: 13 Seconds: 41

I am on day 2!

Shortcake and Deb740 (Welcome fellow Ohioans..) you two need all the help you can get for sure...since Ohio doesn't want smokers ...period I live in Sardinia...east of Cincinnati in Brown County I just moved back here in May from Pinellas Park Florida so glad to be home where I could go into a restaurant and Smoke :eg: Then they pass this no smoking law...just my luck... "Thank God actually"...he works in mysterious ways you know? Ahhh...lets face it...we need to quit anyway, we know it's not good for us or the ones we love. ...and how are we all going to shovel that snow...out of breath...!!! The news says we're getting 4-6 inches by 1 am tonight Ladies...stay tough and breathe when the craving hits, drink some water and move around. or...go out and sweep a little snow and breathe the fresh air. Note today how your lungs feel. In two weeks (since we will probably have 6 more weeks of this stuff), try it again after you've been smoke free..."no puffs allowed", and see if you can't breathe just a little better. Chew on straws, chew your fingernails, but don't smoke! Every puff delays withdrawal, increases craves. WE CAN DO IT !!!!!BUCKEYES AUNTDEB My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,833 Amount Saved: $171 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 1 Mins: 4 Seconds: 21

Welcome orev, you too are new and we are glad to welcome you to the site. You probably have been reading a lot. So you will be better prepared than those who have not found our site yet. Use the tools to the left and post often. We are all here, ex-smokers who have experienced everything you are about to go through. If you find yourself weakening and are about to lite up...come to the SSc...so we can inspire you not to lite that first one not one puff ever....N.O.P.E.
