Being home alone, scared to death!

Hi aswa,

Welcome to the forums. We are glad you've joined!

Congratulations on starting the program. You've taken a big step, so be proud. You know that you were avoiding situations, like being home alone and cooking. Because your first panic attack came while making dinner in the kitchen, you have learned to associate cooking in the kitchen alone with panic attacks. So you've avoided those situations.

The first step you can take is continue to do the honework. It helps you step by step, and eventually you will reach a point where you will feel confident enough to face the situation. It may seem scary right now, but in time you will get there. You will feel safe and secure again.

Internet vs real life therapist

Hi aswa,

You can decided if you need a therapist in addition to the program. If feel that you need some extra support, or someone to talk to , reach out and find a therapist. If you find yourself getting worse, that is an indication that you need to seek the help of a therapist. The more support you can have, the better! It is common to not "click" with a therapist as many people experience this. If this is this case, trust your instinct and find one with whom you feel comfortable.

What do you think the benefits are of seeing a therapist?

Post here as often as you need and we will support you!

Myth or Fact?

Myth: The most popular techniques for reducing stress are the best ones.

Fact:
No universally effective stress reduction techniques exist. We are all different, our lives are different, our situations are different, and our reactions are different. Only a comprehensive program tailored to the individual works

new guy help!!

Hi micah,

Welcome to the forums! We're happy you've joined us!

You're definetly in the right place. You do the program step by step and at your pace. Each section builds on the last one, and address the feelings and thoughts you are having. Feeling that you are going to die is a very common during a panic attack, and the program discusses these thoughts in the first section.

Happy I found all of you!!

Hi upsidedown,

Thank you for posting and sharing!

Sounds like you're going through a big transition right now, and accepting that you are middle aged. If you had a fear of becoming older, aging will likely create some anxiety. You mentioned that there are some major changes going on internally and physically. I would encourage you to check with your doctor to make sure everything is ok.

Setting goals for yourself each day is great! The program can help you achieve these goals. Work through the program at your own pace.

The Liar is Honest

Hi LissaM,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for posting!  We are glad to have you.

You want to make a big transition , and to you that means being honest with others and yourself. It may feel like its the end of the world, but please know that its not. It's the beggining of a healing process, and that in itself can be very frightening if you don't have coping mechanisms. The program is a great tool, and I encourage you to start using it as soon as possible. In each section, you'll find information and tools to help you cope with the anxiety.

I also encourage you to visit your family doctor. Its important to be able to identify physical or biological reasons why you may be experience ulcers, loss in concentration/memory and fatigue. Also these can be symptoms of anxiety, they may also be caused by something else.

Be kind and gentle with yourself. Say nice things to yourself and use positive self talk.  If you can be honest with your family, or with someone you can trust.

We are here to listen and support you in this journey!

panic/anxiety

Hi Nisha,

Welcome to the forums!

The symptoms you are experiencing are very common for anxiety and panic attacks. You can definetly manage and eventually even eliminate these symptoms.

Get started with the program. The first part of the program talks about the symptoms you are mentioning, and there is homework at the end to help you start tracking your symptoms and thoughts. Start as soon as possible!

We are here to listen and support you!
