Introductions-Planning my quit and will be needing some support!

Hello all! Dan here, and very soon i plan to be a non-smoker! I don't want to bore you all, but a little history on my part....I'm considered a "heavy" smoker. According to the gauge on this site, only 1% of the population smokes as much, or more than myself. I've had a 2-3....and sometimes 4 pack-a-day habit for nearly 35 years. And get this...my family has a history of heart disease. Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather...all smoked and all died before thier mid 50's. My father had his first heart-attack at the age of 38. This last week I have brought my smoking down from 60-80 cigs a day,{ashamed to even admit that,} to 20 a day. I plan to do this for a week to lower the nicotine levels, and then stop totally. Any thoughts on that plan? Currently dealing with the headaches, nausea, trouble sleeping, but they have gotten better in the past day and a half. {Thank goodness!} I've had no experience with the Patch, Pills, or Gum, and plan to talk to my Dr. about using one of them if I need to. I've checked into alot of different chats and forums, but this one seems to have the most community feel and support....so here I am! Congrats to the ones that have put down the sticks and are staying strong!! I may need to borrow some of that strength in the days ahead. Lord knows I'm stubborn as a mule when I set my mind to something, but I already know that chatting with everyone here will sure lighten the load. Just to know what others went through, and more importantly...GOT through, will be a blessing. I'm more than ready to hang with this group and help others that come in, but I myself have to drop the nicotine demon first. Any insights or comments are most welcome. I look forward to getting to know you all, and sharing in the fight! Thanks for hanging with me.

Hey guys and gals! Actually, I woke up, waited about 1/2 hour and then had a smoke. Next one was two hours later and tasted nasty. I guess i never really had a chance to taste them before since I was sucking down so many. I'm sure my taste buds and nose were so fried that it couldn't taste them anymore anyways! Oh yeah...I'm also a menthol smoker. Not sure if that makes a diff. I'm hearing alot of chat about the carr book. Can anyone tell me exactly where it's at so i can check it out? Is it on this site somewhere...or elsewhere? Thanks so much everyone!

Ok. And it's Allen Carr? Or Allan Carr? I'll check with the Library this evening!

LOL Doodles! Probably a good idea NOT to work on the computer while in the bath! Thanks for the info. By the time I called the Library here, it was closed. So I'll check first thing in the morning! Thank you!!

WOW! The headache is back tonight and i'm craving!! I've set a timer so i'll know when my "waiting period" is up for my next smoke. If I'm doing something...i won't light up. i just reset the timer. Tough one tonight though!

Planning & Afraid

Hi! Yep! I know exactly how your feeling. Just the thought of being without a smoke makes me want one. Thats just the addiction talking. I myself have cut my intake down anywhere from 60-80 a day, to less than 20. I've been doing this for a few days now. Next step is to put them down altogether! Freaks me out too. I've been smoking for nearly 35 years. It's part of who I am, and a part of who my friends and family know. BUT...not for long! Keep the strength. I've learned quickly from this site that we are not alone in this, and there are many people here that are ready and waiting to walk with us through this. Reach out, and they WILL be there. Best of luck! Dan

Yahh for K!!! Sounds like you got the right stuff to do this! Rusty is right. Whats the worst that can happen if we quit? I've also started walking. Started at a mile, and now walking 1 1/2 miles. Haven't bumped to running yet. LOL! Don't be scared if you can't run for 10 minutes at a time. If you can do 10...great! If you can only do 4...GREAT! Just do it everyday, and before you know it, you'll be running FAR past what you thought you could, and breathing easier all the time. {I know I am already!} Remember, slow and steady. Stay strong!

Well, I made it through the night! LOL! Have had 3 smokes today. By now I would have normally been on my 2nd pack. {Yah me!} Eating alot more fruit and feeling better. I've started noticing smells that I didn't...or couldn't notice before. I'm going to start cleaning house today. Starting with the ceilings and a bucket of Pine-sol! Keeping myself busy. Wish me luck! LOL!
