Thanks freemom!
My way of thinking is it shouldn't matter how you quit as long as the end result is the same. That you no longer smoke that's what's important. It doesn't matter if you do it cold turkey or with chantix or with a NRT. It's that we no longer smoke.
So i'm glad i found this board also !

Welcome shakes and good luck! You can do this with wanting to not smoke more than wanting to smoke.
I am a chantix user. I am now 15 day's smoke free after smoking 2 packs a day for 30 yrs. I never thought i could do this but with chantix's help here i am able to type this.
chantix helps with the physical cravings but you yourself have to fight the mental ones and they will be there. Cigarette's taste horrible on chantix. They will start to taste stale or off. I quit on my 6th day of taking chantix and haven't looked back.
Yes i still have cravings but i want my quit more than i want a cigarette.
Post often and let us know how it's going!

I am now addicted to a little plastic coffee stirrer.
Much much healthier than cigs and the best part is they are free!
I will deal with my coffee stirrer addiction at a later date.

I'm on chantix and it's been a godsend to me. I smoked for 30 yrs and with the help of chantix i have been smoke free for 11 days now!
I quit on my 6th day of taking chantix. Cig's just tasted horrible and i hated the way i felt. I actually felt worse while smoking and on the chantix than when i stopped smoking.
I know chantix is not a miracle drug but it sure helps tremendously. The physical cravings are not there. We do still have the mental ones though to deal with.

Welcome to a great place!!
I too have quit using chantix. 30 yrs of smoking mostly 2 packs a day. What a difference quitting has made. I can now breath and my cough is gone.
I quit on the 6th day of chantix. Cigs just tasted stale and nasty to me. I put my last one out on sunday at 5:30 and i haven't had one since!!!

I also smoked for 30 yrs and your right~ it does feel funny at first doing things without smoking. That's our mental cravings. We just associate certain things with smoking. So we have to retrain ourselves to do it without smoking. That first week i quit i just didn't quite feel like myself. Now at 11 day's out the non-smoking is starting to feel much more familiar and i've gotten into a different and better routine.
Good luck tomorrow~ with your attitude and chantix you can do it!!
