Tomorrow is the day I hope

It's all true. You just have to decide that the time has come. You've set a date and you've got the medication now you have to take the plunge and you will feel great for doing it. Good luck tomorrow. What's So Good About Quitting?

All the things listed plus the fact that the dog doesn't sit around staring balefully at me and WHEEZING through his nose trying to catch his breath. How to have a positive quit...my flashback to 10 weeks ago

VERY GOOD POST Obviously a poetic and creative woman. Like reading your things because you put into words vague thoughts I might have had. 10 weeks! That must feel so good. Surely you must feel 'safe' now? I'll try on some of those quotes and ask some of those questions to keep my quit firm. Thanks. Idle speculation and observations

:confuse: The thing is this. Am on day 5 now. Never thought I'd make it. Have spent the time in this wierd dazed state, writing posts for this site, roving around the site trying to get reponses. One day I did get some but I can't find them any more. They were very nice and positive from 2 people especially. At first I didn't really want to tell anyone about my deciding to quit and that was why I was pleased to find this site - especialy when an attempt to get in touch with a local counselling group failed. Then, with frustration rising and my feeling of isolation growing, I began to mention to some people who I thought might care that I had given up only to be met with little or no response. This morning I asked my daughter (who lives with me) if she had noticed I'd stopped smoking and she said 'Oh no.... Well I've not been here over the weekend'. I pointed out that I'd actually virtually stopped last Monday but completely since Wednesday. Anyway she said I had no chance succeeding if I chose to go 'cold turkey' and that I would NEED the patches. I told my Mother last week and she didn't respond at all. She's always hated me (and anyone else)smoking cos she never has. I thought she'd be thrilled. Do you think people don't respond because they secretly think that you'll not manage it. Or maybe it is just that they don't realise what a big thing it is to have made the decision and done it. Maybe some people didn't even notice that you smoked.... I said in one of my previous postings that it was like losing a lover and was rebuked by one person who responded for using that term but that is what it's like for me. I had a really strange smoking pattern. Not a matter of lighting up as soon as I awoke and smoking all day. i could make myself wait till 11.30 or so and have two or three then go maybe all day till 4 or so and have about 5 or 6 in quick succession. Then one around 8.30 but around 10 I would have another burst of 6 or so. I called myself a cluster smoker. Because of this I don't know how much I was/am addicted to the nicotine or if it was the habit/boredom/relaxation elements that drove me because now I seem to be able to go for longer and longer period without thinking about it but then I suddenly get this kick in the stomach sick feeling

Idle speculation and observations

:) :) Now I've got it. Thankyou Angelcapp and everyone else who responded to me yesterday. I really mean it. Made me feel so much better when I read them this afternoon. I thought the computer was dead this morning and that I would have to live without that too but the daughter has breathed life into it and so I'm back in touch and glad for it. Reading others reaction is also reassuring with regard to the reaction of those closest to you. I have decided not to mention my not smoking any more to anyone else and, as so many of you suggested, keep it to myself as my thing for me to cope with and be proud of and to share with you lot. I do have to say though that my partner, although he never talks about it, is really cutting down now and tries not to smoke in my company anything like he would have done. I'd urge him to stop but I know that's not the way to go. I stopped drinking three years ago after almost killing myself with it(literally)and I know from that and the smoking thing that no amount of people on your case is going to make you make the decision to quit it has to come from you. So. Thanks you all and I hope I can be a positive voice for some of you sometime. JDK Smokefree Diary / General Thread

My friend is in Southampton, I can send her round with a couple if you like! Tried to catch you on IM but you're not on line. Don't know how to advise on the leaving do scenario. Maybe it's better if you just go for the complete party pooper look and not drink either so that you don't let your defences down. Just for the next year or so..... Good luck anyway.
