Hi mccoy07
Only just found your post from when you were immediately pre-quit and now I read that you have passed 30 days. Well done. I am on day 8 and that never seemed possible. Because we British do our dates the other way round to you I had got it all wrong about when you were posting...
Anyway, just to say hi and well done.
:) :)

Hi Kevin
Thanks for the translations.
How's it going now? 6 o'clock our time. I've just been asked out for pizza and a drink. I know I don't drink alcohal but I still feel anxious about being in that environment where I would have sat in that, often uncomfortable, blue haze. I mean, what do you do with your hands.......
One of the things I use as a goal is that, come July 1st I will be comfortable with being smoke free and won't have to join the others outside 'smirking'.
Hope your Easter is smoke free too.
Genevieve

I stopped smoking cigarettes about 26 years ago and had a break from smoking for about 4 years but I started then to have the odd cigar (Fridays), then it was Friday & Saturday then Sundays too. Weekend reward syndrome. Soon it was every night and then up to 7/10 a day till three years ago when I had to quit drinking and therefore the cigars that went with it but I went straight on to cigarettes and have smoked 15/20 a day for those three years.
Now I am going to through the agony of stopping smoking like the rest of you and it is no less difficult for me than those who have had a straight cigarette addiction.
So, I would advise - very strongly - against thinking of cigars as maybe being ok. They're just the beginning of the whole addiction again.
Easter weekend. Four solid days of sitting around thinking of how I'm not smoking, trying not to eat too much chocolate Easter eggs and I'VE DONE IT. Actually made day 13 - so far unscathed. Went to the pub a few times and mixed with other smokers but was OK. More at risk while in the house or being stressed out with too much time in the company of others most usually only seen for a few hours a day!
I had actually kept two cigarettes from my last packet. Just in case. You know - some emergency might crop up which would absolutely demand a cigarette. But my partner ran out on Saturday night so I gave those to him and that is that. No 'safety' net now. Although I do still think along the lines of 'If I REALLY want to smoke I CAN still go to the shop and buy some'. No doubt some of you will say I shouldn't even allow that thought process to develop but it helps me.
My son has just come back from holiday in Spain and left me a very cheery greeting on the answer machine saying he was back and had brought me a souvenir: a tacky ashtray from the Sierrra Nevada. Have texted him with the news that I won't be needing it but maybe could use it as a plant pot.
Hope everyone out there is well and have also had weekends to celebrate.
:)

Hi Phil
Thanks for yours. Have tried the IM thing. Have been given instructions but just don't get it. I'm not too bright on the whole computer thing. It took me about a week to get to the stage of posting notices and remembering how to find them and their responses.
I'll have another go..

Hello Support Team
It's me, Genevieve, still struggling to find my way round this website. Where do I go/click on to read my im?
Yesterday was my first full day with any cigarettes at all and I feel good about that but still have these strong flashes of sadness at key times when I imagine the reward to a smoke and realise I don't have it there any more. Just like losing a lover.

Just found the posting from Interesting. Thank God someone out there is feeling the way I do. I am just at DAY TWO but understand that feeling of disappointment when the reward is not the cigarette any more. The sadness at it's removal from my life but the excitement that I seem to be doing something positive about having got it out. Just told my Mother I quit and she did not respond in the slightest. Not a word. Maybe she is deafer than I thought. I had imagined that she would be the one to get very excited.

I've picked your message kind of at random. I just can't work out how to join the whole forum scene. I just quit today really and want to engage in 'converations' with anyone who will listen and anwer back about just what it all means. I don't want to do the gum thing or the patches. I had to give up drinking three years ago every day living. Will wait now to see if anyone replies to this....
