Anatis: I found this site weeks after I had quit, but find it so helpful in maintaining the resolve.
I also found Alan Carr's book was the motivator I needed. Didn't you find that his whole attitude about the addiction is what finally turned your thinking around?
Once I "got it", that I'm a drug addict, I got mad, in fact, furious at myself for allowing this addiction to take hold of me for 35 ridiculously long, smelly, gross years. No more!
That's what I hold onto every time I get a craving (which is much less often now, I must say). Now I can just laugh at it, because I know it's just the nicotine monster trying to lure me back. That monster is pathetic, isn't he?
Welcome aboard and more power to you! Keep it going!

Never Again:
Thank you for a most uplifting message to those of us still somewhat new in our quit.
It is so encouraging to hear that nearly two years later, you're as proud of yourself as you were at the beginning and that your resolve is even stronger.
That's a level of hope we all need to hear.

stickin to it: I love your post!
You know what resonated with me the most? The word "normalcy".
You're absolutely right -- normalcy is what we're striving for here.
We all recognize that smoking is NOT normal. Getting to the point where you think less and less about smoking, where it intrudes less and less into your day -- that's what we all want.
The journey to normalcy -- I'm on it!
Thank you for the words of wisdom.

Wow - Skitty, what a background you have for one so young.
If anybody understands the power of addictions, it would be you! As a 35-year smoker, it was only once I understood that I was deeply addicted to nicotine that I knew I could quit for good. I couldn't stand the thought of giving even one more day over to the addiction.
You've done an incredible job of beating back two serious addictions, so you know what it takes. With your commitment to conquer this last addiction, I know you'll get there.
Use this site a lot. Read everything, post messages on good and bad days. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
I hope you have a solid plan for how you will deal with the cravings. Please do work the program to the left -- it's very helpful.
We're here for you. Go get 'em and keep the faith!

Jaset:
I'm so very, very sorry for your loss. It is beyond tragic to lose wonderful people to this awful addiction.
I lost a dear friend this past summer -- he died of lung cancer at the age of 59. He had quit smoking 10 years ago. He suffered tremendously during his final months. I will never forget.
Remember your friend and his struggles and I know your resolve is even greater now, as is mine.
Thinking of you today.
Keep the faith.

Mercy:
I know -- go make a bunch of snow angels!! That ought to keep your hands and mind busy!
You know, the cravings do pop up sometimes when you least expect them. That's part of what makes this damn addiction so insidious.
You can NEVER drop your guard and feel that you have the cravings licked. You will get a craving or two or three -- it's part of quitting.
But remember that every craving is a reminder to you of just how badly addicted you are -- if you look at it that way, it's easier to tell the nicodemon to go to hell!
NOPE -- Not One Puff Ever! That's the ONLY way to make this work.
You can do it!!! We're all behind you. (I'd make snow angels if I could, but here in the Seattle area, we don't have the means. Make one for me, ok??)
Keep the faith.

You did sort of drop out of sight, now that you mention it. But what you say makes sense (well, except for the hugs and cuddles part). We do all need to take breaks from various parts of our lives sometimes, don't we?
No hugs or cuddles from here because you asked so very nicely, but the support is still very much there.
Congratulations on your 60 days -- that's awesome!
Welcome back.
Keep the faith.

2Tone: You ARE a good boy! You're an EXCELLENT boy! That was a great test for you and you passed with flying colors.
Whoo hoooooooo!!!
Now, what's your reward? How are you being good to yourself? I am glad you're patting yourself on the back. You deserve it.
Keep it going, keep it going. You can do it!
