virtual smoking

I saw a guy at our psyche ward power smoke a pack during their smoke break...It was horrendous looking...a cig in each hand, lighting another from the butt of a finished one..so pretty much he had 3 smokes going at any given time. And I remember what I smelled like after having just one! eeww. Anyway great going imallclear..You are awesome!!--DD My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 20 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 417 Amount Saved: $92 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 22 Mins: 54 Seconds: 50

as per request--- depression/loss of taste

That is just a dam shame about Sam Adams tasting like a sock! Good thing you didnt know about this side effect 10 days ago. Ok Mr Jaset withdrawals are going to be a b**ch. You are going to get cranky, have headaches, suffer through bouts of deppresion...and oh by the way...your favorite beer is going to taste like a sock. I am sure just like the depression it is temporary. I guess that is why wellbutrin/zyban is popular for quitters, in addition to supposedly tuning down crave receptors, it is an anti-depressant (it's original purpose). Jim, you are doing an awesome job..you are almost done with heck week! Keep it up!--Kevin-- My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 427 Amount Saved: $96.6 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 0 Mins: 40 Seconds: 22

Ooh Im strugglin

Are you still around super? I am very concerned for you. I wish/hope I could help you through it, and if you didnt make it...come back and give it a go again, you can do it! Maybe you need the patch or mood drugs (like me,and others) to help you get through, talk with your doctor he/she will be happy to help you, truly happy. If you think there is a stygma based on taking help aids to quit vs cold turkey..dont worry about it...the common goal is the quit My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 399 Amount Saved: $87.4 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 19 Mins: 57 Seconds: 3

Another victim

My Mom just called to let me know her next door neighbor and a man I have known my whole life, died today. From...you guessed it, lung cancer. He quit smoking 3 weeks ago, about the time he found out he had it. He was a rarety indeed, he was 81 years old. Smoked for well over 60 years. Some would say he lived a normal life expectancy, who knows how long he would have lived? He has had emphysema for years. Some might use him as an example; "see, he lived a full life as a smoker", much like I said of George Burns....I look at it like this now; He started to die 25 years ago. I am glad I quit smoking! This might be an idea for a new category: "Who do you know..." I think everybody probably knows of someone who has been taken from the effects of smoking, I have seen many a post lately...Then again maybe we want to focus on the positives of our quit's, the fact that we are not going to face years of degradation, is positive enough for me.
