Emphysema

Cuddles, I am in the same boat with my mom.. She has COPD and continues to smoke. I am not going to let that happen to me. I have to do everything for her. By the time we get to the grocery store, by the first isle she is winded and wants to go home. We used to spend many hours shopping together and now, I can barely get her into the store. I have a 16 year old daughter who also smokes. I am determined not to continue to pass down this legacy. So, now that I quit, I am making her smoke outside. It's not easy because here in Houston, it's very hot outside and full of mosquitos in the evenings. I feel like a meany mommy, but you know what, she has only smoked three packs in 5 days and she is starting to say things like, "well mom, if you can go this long, maybe I can to". I am going to let her come to her own conclusion. And I guess that is the same thing we have to do with our mothers. They will come to thier own conclusions one way or another, and we need to be good examples for them. My mom also smokes right in front of me, and even in my car! I can't beleive I can keep going sometimes! I am so much stronger than I ever thought I could be! Just Intoducing myself

Dear Ann, This is also my 4 millionth "try" at quiting smoking but this time it is for good. Don't think of it as you have failed so many times. Those times were just the practice. Elenore Rosevelt said 'Many of lifes failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when the gave up." This is the way I am trying to think of it. I am 47 and feel like an idiot that I am still smoking at this age. Here are some more things that I found on this site on my first day. I have typed them up nice and big and have them on my wall. I think they are very good for people who have tryed before and "failed": We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible The only courage that matters is the kind that gets you from one moment to the next. Keep looking at the site and you will find things that keep you pumped up. I'm behind you 100%. Day 4 smoke free

Wow, June quiters are soooo awsome. I am also 47 and I am remakeing a better me. I lost weight and started excersizing and now I am quitting smoking. I was trying to be mercifull on myself in the first few days and only worked out moderatly untill yesterday. Then yesterday I decided to go ahead and put some steam into again and WOW WAS I SHOCKED. In just four days of not smoking, my lung capacity has improved so much that I doubled the amount of time that I could run on the treadmill. I couldn't beleive it! I really wish I had never started smoking, but it was the in thing to do in the 70s in California. I can't change the past but I am absolutly deterimined to change the future. Good to meet you and I am looking forward to walking this road with you, Mama My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 185 Amount Saved: $22.8 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 51 Seconds: 30

Let's start a June club!

Hey june-bugs, we need to check in... is everyone still here and smoke free? I am proud to say that I have endured the fire, a fight with my teenage daughter, and I am still here. I have actually managed to change my attitude. I just told myself that smoking is not going to make it better. I don't enjoy fighting with her anymore when I'm smoking than when I'm not and it's really silly to think that smoking would help. Then I went and took my dog for a walk and let her stew in her own juices. Then after I had a chance to think, I figured it out. She is trying to get me to start smoking again so she doesn't have to smoke outside anymore. I am so proud of myself that I could bust. How is everybody from june doing so far? Strange day ?

You know, I have been absolutly worthless this week in all areas, and I have spent a lot of time and energy feeling really guilty about it. I spend most of my time at work reading and posting and all, but I am just soooo spacey... I really should have taken vacation but we don't have the luzury of changing our vacation days here. At least I have covered well and I don't think anyone suspects. I'm hoping that by the end of this weekend, I will be able to be back to work. Cant get you out of my mind

Bubba, Wow, look at your stats! That is something else! I hope to be there someday! What are you going to do with that extra year you have earned? Yes, I am getting mad now at the nicodemon as well as the nicotine pushers. The more I learn, the more I can't believe that here in the U.S., this is all perfectly legal! I could go on and on about how they robbed me, my parents and my kids of our lives but also, I had a brother that died of crib death (which now has been shown to have some links to smoking during pregnancy) and I have a brother who was born with Cerebral Palsey and no one knows why. I guess that the nicotine pushers could give me back my money, but they can never restore all that! Overcoming the Fear of Failure

I agree that expressing our emotions makes us strong and independant women. The weak ones are too afraid to let it show, and to be real.
