i am a fool

Redytoquit, You are not a "fool" - you are a nicotine addict! All of us on the SSC are too (addicts, not fools..well maybe a little of both!). I am sorry that you have so much on your plate right now - it sounds really overwhelming! To top off all of the stressors in your life right now, it sounds like smoking today added another source of regret/sadness. But, the good news is, you now have a choice - a choice of whether to be a smoker or not. I kept putting off my quit because of different life stressors - I'd rationalize: "this is not a good time to quit because...(my boyfriend broke up with me, my mom is really sick, etc)". Then I realized that life is always going to be full of stressors and there is no such thing as a good or bad time to quit. Rather, my addiction was trying to talk me out of quitting. I listened to this addiction for years and years. Now, I'm fighting hard to ignore those addiction thoughts. So, with all of the hardship you're going through, you deserve something good for yourself - I can't think of a better gift than a healthy smoke-free life. It's time for you to focus on and take care of yourself instead of everyone else! You CAN do it! want to quit smoking for good

Patty - Brace yourself, this is want you'll be missing out on as a non-smoker: *You won't get to reek of cigarettes anymore *You won't be able to spend all of your spare money on smokes *You won't be pre-occuppied all of the time by planning your next smoke. *Parents won't keep their children away from you. *You won't be hacking & coughing anymore (and it was so attractive) *Your hair and skin won't be dull/lifeless. *Your teeth won't stay as yellow *You won't have those moments of frantically searching your purse, pockets, etc. for a lighter/matches. *Your friends/family won't be begging you to quit anymore *Your insurance costs won't be as high *You won't get lectured by your doctor, dentist, etc. *You won't have the fun of huffing for breath when you walk/exercise *Your house/car/apartment won't have that lingering smoke scent all of the time (even with the air fresheners we try to use). If you can live without all of the above, then I guess the non-smoking thing just might work out! :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 295 Amount Saved: $58.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 19 Mins: 51 Seconds: 26

If I can quit smoking, I can quit eating!

Jane - I can definitely relate! I'm finding that my obsession about smoking - thinking about it every single minute, is starting to include a second target...obsessing about food. I now think about/plot my next snack/meal the way I use to plot my next smoke. Uh Oh!!! I'm trying to keep what I eat healthy...but, I can feel the weight adding on every day (either that or the clothes fairy has shrunk all of my clothes!). But, I'm still early in my quit, and am focusing on getting through each day as a non-smoker, so I'm not going to let myself get too hysterical about my weight (not quite yet anyway!) oh God how my body is hurting - help me please !!!

Tryagain - My heart hurts for you -- I'm sorry that you are so uncomfortable right now. I wish I could take away each & every pain for you. If you have no money for insurance, don't you qualify for Medicaid and/or isn't there a free medical clinic near you? I want you to get the help you deserve. Tryagain... One more idea - If there is a dental school near you, they often offer free or minimal fee services.
