Chemical Reactors

I work in a chemical manufacturing facility. Although I do not work in the process area I work around dangerous chemical. We constantly receive safety training to be able to work around these chemicals. Some of the chemicals are acetone, ammonia, formaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide. We place these chemical in large reactors and change them into chelating agents. In short a chelating agent hold together other materials. An example would be if you did not have a chelating agent in your clothes soap it would separate. What is ironic to me is these chemicals are also in cigarettes. Smokers light these chemicals and inhale the smoke and just like our reactors the chemical inhaled also change. These changes dont produce chelates they produce cancers, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, heart disease, heart attacks and asthma. Now this did not affect me when I was smoking but today I think of being a human chemical reactor and now for life have decided not to smoke. When I first arrived here I was introduced to NOPE and today it is my motto. This is driving me crazy

Cuddles, In all due respect, do you have any support outside of SSC? Maybe something close and personal can help, like a smoking group face to face. When I was finishing my MBA on-line I couldn't get through a very hard stat course and I need the interaction of a group and their support. I passed the course. My concern is "YOU" and maybe its time to try something different. Now don't leave us0----- but get additional help. You are so worth this quit and you want it, so give yourself a little more to succeed. I remember..............

Often when I log in I look to see who else is here. In the beginning of my quit I was just looking around and getting a feel and was one of those that didn't post too often. I see many here at SSC that are new and not posting but reading. This is a good thing. Yet what I have learned the most during my quit is......... We should not gauge our progress or lack of same based on other people's experiences, what you read, see on television, etc. You are unique, both in your body and mind. Everyone heals and recovers and changes at different rates and in different ways. It takes a combination of many things to really be successfully; do not think that a magic patch or chewing gum is going to help you quit quickly and forever. Without the motivation, the exercise, the stress control, and the other things talked about here at SSC, you will probably be using tobacco within a few weeks or months (this is documented by scientific studies). One needs to use a muti-disciplinary treatment program to ease off and quit and to stay away from any bad habit or addiction. Have a doctor, a therapist, a counselor, your family support you, and as long as you are making progress, even if it seems inordinately slow to you, you are on track and will do much better perhaps than those who quit smoking cold turkey. It takes guts to quit a bad habit or addiction. Allow yourself to feel good about your decision to do it. When you have done it, celebrate life and give yourself a BIG gift of some kind! WAKE UP JOKERS!!!

Still here and still smoke free. Sometimes I just don't want to think about not smoking anymore. I don't smoke so why talk about not smoking. Oh well I'm enjoying the beach and now working on a diet thing.
