Tom,
It sounds like you have some good reasons for quitting, but you must realize that in order to quit, you cannot smoke. Seems simple, and it is... not easy, but simple. We have a saying here, N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff Ever. One puff leads to one more, one more leads to one pack, one pack leads to one carton....... you get the picture. Just don't smoke that next cigarette. The ones before it don't matter and the ones after it don't matter... only that NEXT cigarette matters.
It's not easy. It takes time to not run to cigarettes everytime things get rough, but it's something we have to learn as ex-smokers. Life's going to happen whether we smoke or not. Bad things ARE going to happen. So we have to learn to deal with them without smoking. The good news is that once you've done it a few times, it gets a lot easier because you can say to yourself "I made it through such-and-such without a smoke, so I can make it through this without a smoke too." Stand in a mirror and say to yourself "no matter what happens, I'm not going to smoke!!!" Say it until you believe it! You CAN do this!
Crave the Quit!
