Some Facts I found
Good post Gaby now let us expand our on our information. I can not stand by and watch the world go up in smoke, so I am in the process of starting a program of trying to reach our children by presenting facts to them by way of non smoking seminars and goup discussions at the community and school level. Also I am involved in a mentoring program to reach senior citizen smokers. How's that :) I'll catch em coming and going. Here are some killer stats that might even surprise you even seing info on another site.
? Since 2000 - 6,633,124 kids have become regular smokers.
? 2,211,041 kids will die prematurely.
? The tobacco industry spends over 15.1 BILLION a year in marketing their product in the USA alone, most of it reaching kids.
? 43,000 children are orphaned each year because of smoking related deaths.
? Tobacco KILLS an average of 10 persons every minute thats over 5,000.000 a year.
? If youre married to a smoker you have nearly a 30% risk of developing lung cancer.
? More Americans die from cigarette related illnesses than Car Accidents, AIDS, alcohol, suicide, homicide and illegal drugs combined.
? It will cost employers on average over 9,000 per year for each employee that smokes. That includes lost time for Cig breaks, cost of health insurance, and lost time due to flu and colds.
I could list another 10 pages of interesting stats on tobacco and it's cause and effects but I won't as you can on your own find more doom and gloom out there on the dangers of smoking.
On a positive note over 45,000,000 people have quit smoking in the past decade.
