Longtime exsmokers question

As addicts, we have an addicts conception of just "what" the addictive substance does for us...... the first really BIG lie is that smoking relieves stress. Smoking causes MORE stress, cause you gotta keep the demon fed. From the time you stub out the smoke, the monster begins to build in volume demanding another one. (being where you can't smoke?? now that is what I used to call stress) Secondly.....When we quit we tend to blame ALL our bad times/days on the fact that we can't smoke! We had problems with friends and family and situations when we did smoke........perhaps we just turned away from them and lit up??? Third.......every one is "different"!! the difference in all our family members was like night and day!! Some people CAN turn away from it and not look back.....and while you do need to do that, it can't be accomplished in a short time for the majority of us. Try to relax and realize that having those thoughts about smoking in your head are quite normal. Just continue to use the ole "distract and delay" technique. and lastly.....BELIEVE your so called 'elders' (I hate that discription LOL) this WILL pass.....thinking about smoking, craving, triggers, side effects, etc, etc, etc......it WILL END!!! One day (and again we are all different as to when) you will suddenly realize that you haven't been thinking about smoking...........that's just the beginning[u/] of your freedom!!! That prize is one that just continues to grow in stature for the quitter. hang tough....kick butt Katy p.s and get a reward program going if you haven't!! Rewards are the often forgot about part of quitting....they are quite important so begin with them NOW ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1558 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 62,330 Amount Saved: $8569 Life Gained: Days: 203 Hrs: 6 Mins: 6 Seconds: 5

I had those dreams also.....at least for a while..(and I didn't find them scarey or anything?)..it seemed like mine began to taper off as I weaned off the patch....then they were only about "smoking" for a while.....the last dream had me finally refusing to smoke when offered the opportunity?? hang tough....all the side effects will pass.....lung desease on the other hand won't! COPING WITH SMOKERS....how to do it?

There are those that think you should dig right in at the beginning and not change your patterns a bit.....I say, why make this quitting business any harder than it has to be??? If you feel threatened or weakened, or just needled by a situation, the WHY endure it? Yes, there are always gonna be those people who smoke around us...some of them dear friends.....but are you gonna continue to take a smoke break with them?? You are probably going to discover on down the road that you frankly don't like being around where people are smoking......I know I don't.....and this doesn't mean I am a ranting EX smoker..... If you are uncomfortable with smokers at the present, say so....you have a right to stear clear of it if you choose, so exercise that right. stability comes with time and your ever strenthening commitment to stay quit....rest assured that the longer you go, the easier it becomes. hang tough Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1558 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 62,332 Amount Saved: $8569 Life Gained: Days: 203 Hrs: 6 Mins: 9 Seconds: 59

Help Me!!!

The help must come from your "choice" to stop.....you have to want to quit more than you want to smoke. Aids are just that....aids....they don't take away all cravings, merely dull the edges so you can cope a bit easier. The cravings are intense at first....but with time and your decision to not smoke, they become managable....finally they leave you alone. It boils down to making the commitment to NOT smoke....no matter what. The withdrawal DOES pass. My hubby and I smoked 2 and 3 packs a day also.....and had done so for 40 years and more.....but we are free.... Make the choice and then commit to it!
