Negative Core Beliefs - Examples

Jason and everyone,

I think my brain just can't absorb anymore information or something.  I'm working on neg. core beliefs and have written down what my parents were like and also what I belief about myself, others, the world, the future.  I don't know what to do with the information, how do I find the core beliefs in that?  If people could give me examples, they don't have to be specifically yours, but in general examples, maybe I can figure this out. And, how many core beliefs can a person have?  I just need a jump start.  Thanks for all the help once again.  Hope this makes sense, I'm feeling kind of fuzzy from info. overload.

Summer time fun!

Hi Sunny,

I'm sorry I was late too, hopefully better late than never.  You sound much better.  All I had to say was that when I'm really tired or exhausted, nothing looks right.  That's when I tell myself not to think about anything, and I can look at everything with renewed eyes after getting rest again.  We all love you and care about you.  You're doing great!  Shari

Exposure Success Story

Today I was a jitterbug.  I just have had an underlying edginess which I blamed on my cherry pastry, and all of it's sugary sweetness, that I had for breakfast this morning.  I felt on the edge of a panic attack, but I had to do two errands today, so I forced myself into the shower and to the two stores.  I jitterbugged around town without it going into a panic attack, so hurray!  I guess some days are more edgy than other days, but I'm glad that's all that came of it.  Just posting what happened today.

Exposure Success Story

I almost didn't post the Jitter bug story, but now I'm glad I did.  I'm glad it gave a happy memory to Davit.  I'm glad to find out from Cleo that this is normal.  And, Red, your words touched my heart and I had tears of relief from your encouragement.  I didn't look at my situation as you did.  I thought maybe I was at a stand still or heaven forbid was going backward a bit.  I'm going to soak up your words and carry them with me today.  I'm going to put your words on my refrigerator as a reminder to keep going forward.  Thank you my forever friends!

Negative Core Beliefs - Examples

Thanks Teebs, I almost didn't post the question.  Yesterday must have been my day of hesitation.  I'm glad you're interested in the topic too.  It seems we are going through things at the same time, like learning about this topic and doing our exposure work.  Thanks for keeping in touch!

Red, thanks for your helpful response!

Hobbies

Egads, I'm having a Junior moment, where I keep forgetting to say something in my prior post.  Jason, also what spurred me on about going for it with getting chickens, is reading the Quote Of The Day.  It's in our toolbox on the upper right hand side.  The one for the chickens was Cher's quote:  "If you really want something you can figure out how to make it happen."  This is so true.  In my life when I want something really badly, I go for it with pit bull determination and tenacity.  Wild horses couldn't keep me from getting what I want.  Too bad I don't want to go to the dentist.

Summer Reflection

This is the greatest summer of my life!  I found this site and I am much better and I have lots of friends here.  It's a dream come true.  I look at exposure work as exciting and challenging instead of a dread or fear.  I haven't avoided things like I used to and I just say, "yes", to where ever my family wants to go, instead of staying behind.  The summer used to mean that, yea! my daughter is home from college.  Now she has internships every summer in different states.  The role transition session was great, so now I say to the summer, yea! what am I going to do and enjoy.  I'm glad, that even before taking this program, I traveled with my daughter to Florida, and found a passion for snakes (by trying something new).  And, that I did a 5K run which was completely outside of my comfort zone and out of my fitness zone.  And, I got a pet parrot out of our tree and reunited him with his owner and got to bird sit him and his friend for a week.  You can't get much better than that.  I am taking better care of myself which is huge, because I would even put the pets before myself.  I'm working on negative core beliefs and it's just so exciting to learn and use all of the skills on this program.

Summer Reflection

Yes, I've noticed big changes that have permeated into every aspect of my life, not just with anxiety and panic.  With all of this retraining your mind to focus on the positive, I've become an optimist.  I'm expecting great things and great things are happening.  My approach to this program is as follows.  I am single minded about the process.  You either believe it's going to work or you don't.  You can't be double minded about it.  I believe the program works and it is working for me.  If I have an off day, that's life, off days happen.  I keep believing and keep going forward.  This is what I've found in my experience.
