Tomorrow is quit day...where did my enthusiasm go?

Congrats on your quit! It is terrifying to give up something that is such a part of you. You may wonder how life will be without your old pal nicodemon joining you. You know what? More people are living smoke free than are not. Life lives so much better without being bound and chained to those darn cigs! The only thing to fear is fear itself. Embrace the unknown and welcome the new discoveries that come with experiencing a smoke free life for the first time in many, many years. You won't believe what a wonderful world awaits. Stay close to us, stay strong, and stay quit. And post this all over your home "N. O. P. E." Not one puff, ever. Does Your State provide this?

WA state imposes huge cig taxes, we just passed one of the most agressive smoking bans in the country, and as of yet, I see no evidence of any stop smoking programs. In fact, there was an article in the local paper about how revenues from the cig tax were intended to help fund healthcare but so far the funds have gone, shall we say, up in smoke! Weekend Promise 01/27/06

Here's to yet another glorius smoke free weekend! Yesterday, I parked at a strip mall in a space in front of a smoke shop. Cigs $45+ per carton/$4-5+ per pack. I thought to myself "I am so glad I don't smoke!" Is anyone trying to quit cold turkey??

I too did cold turkey. Thank goodness for the cinnamon sticks to suck on, and all of the great people here at the SSC! It is not so important how you Quit, but that you Quit, and that you Quit for you and nobody else. Do it because you want to. You will survive the Quit a lot better than you will the effects of smoking. Help! Want to quit sooner, but not sure....

Bagsgirl, I had originally scheduled my quit date 3 weeks out. One day, I found it more stressful to think about the quit than just diving in and getting it over with. Some find it easier if they do it on work days, where their minds will be occupied with other things. For me, I am glad I did it over a weekend. I needed to stay close to this site and get all the support I could. It's scary experiencing withdrawal, and it really helps to have others who understand and who will hold your hand. Looking back, physical withdrawal was probably easier for me than the mental withdrawal, which took much longer. Do what feels right. We will be here to support you. Congrats on your decision to quit! Believe it or not, life lives a whole lot better quit than it does being a slave to the cigs. What are you waiting for? Hello Survivors

Cactus, sorry you slipped but glad you are back and ready to take charge of your life. Remember, you have the strength within you to be in control of nicodemon. Sometimes you just have to dig way down deep to find it. Many of the original Survivors are still around, we just tend to hang out in other threads, trying to give some support back. Some have slipped, some have not. There is also an SSC group over at Yahoo Groups where many of us pop in and chat once in a while. I'm doing OK, still quit with no slips. Fighting the second upper respiratory infection since my quit and issues with my eyes. I swear I was healthier when I smoked! Ha Ha Ha. Please stay close. We will help you keep your quit. A Far To Complacent Attitude Toward Quitting.....

Bubba, I agree with you 100%. Knowledge is power! I was listening to a syndicated talk radio show this last weekend, a physician (we won't name names) has his own show. At any rate, he mentioned the fact that the people who are most successful at quitting smoking are those who do not prepare, those who just wake up one day and say "this is it", and quit cold turkey then and there. I beg to differ with him on that. I would think most people have had nagging thoughts and have done some prep work (whether they realize it or not) long before "this is it" makes its appearance. I knew I was ready, but I also knew I needed lots of support and education to be successful. I think the part of what he said that holds true, however, is the being ready part. I think a successful quitter is one who wants to quit more than anything else, and is willing to do anything, suffer everything and give up a few things in order to achieve it.
