Ten Years Today!!! :)

As of today, July 27th, I have been free from cigarettes for ten years.  Words cannot describe how good I feel!  My reward was a very nice dinner with my daughter and her best friend.  My daughter was five when I quit and is now a teenager that doesn't smoke.  :)  I have always shared my rewards with her since she put up with so much during my early quit.  She told me tonight that it was worth it to have a non smoking mom.  I am proud of myself for my commitment to stay smoke free and proud of my daughter who has made better choices than I did when I was her age.
For those that struggle, do whatever it takes to not smoke.  Yes it will change everything in your life, you will not be the same person...you will be better and stronger than you were before.
Hang tuff and take care,
Jennifer aka jen_quit

12 years for jen_quit

Hi everyone!

My 12 year anniversary came and went on July 27th and I didn't even notice.  I think that's a good sign that I don't smoke, smoking is pretty far behind me.  For those of you that knew me when I quit, my baby girl just graduated high school and is turning 18 in the fall.  She is the one I originally quit for, now it's for me!

My husband didn't keep his quit.  He not only began smoking again, but drinking and smoking pot as well.  It's been over a year since he left us for another woman and we are going through a divorce now.  Even in the midst of all of his addict drama, I was never even tempted to smoke.  Quite truthfully the thought never crossed my mind.

Sarah and I are well and happy and I'm so thankful for our close relationship.  So if you are struggling to remain quit, just do whatever it takes, it is worth it, YOU are worth it!

Take care and much love to all,

Jennifer

An oldie saying hello...14 1/2 years quit.

I haven't checked in here for a very long time, so hello! My quit is still going strong after 14 1/2 years! I think a lot about the people that I quit with and hope they are doing well too. :-)

I'm forever grateful to the SSC for helping me understand the addiction process and to help me quit smoking. This is not my first quit, but it's my longest ever and my last.

I see that my acronym of NOPE is still around, that makes me feel really good. What it did for me is drive home the point that I cannot have one puff ever, that reawakens the addiction, then it's back to square one...no thank you!

The non-smoking life is worth whatever struggle you are currently dealing with...hang tuff and trust the process...it works. Take care!

I need help: I feel like smoking makes me a better person

Hi kdwradio!

My daughter was 5 when I quit 14 1/2 years ago and I struggled like crazy for the first year of my quit. I worked the program to the letter and had my list of coping skills at the ready. I had a huge list of healthy things I could whenever I wanted to smoke. I stayed focused on my goal of quitting. I hated smoking so much and there was a lot of self loathing that came with it. Work the program and trust the process.

Years later I am proud of myself for hanging in there and making my life so much better. My daughter turns 21 this year and doesn't remember a time that I smoked...she can't picture it and neither can I!

My husband was my best quit buddy but he abandoned us 4 years ago, left us for another woman. He started drinking and smoking again too, still does. Then after that, I lost my job; my daughter and I were almost homeless. My world came crashing down in every way imaginable. I went back to school to finally earn my degree and I graduate this December. Oh, and I am nursing a broken shoulder right now, week 7. I wasn't even tempted to smoke through all of this. None of it is easy, but smoking is never an option for me.

Hang in there and do the best you can. Find some healthy things to do instead of smoke. Make a list and keep it with you. When things became unmanageable for me, I would take a hot shower and cry, grit my teeth, whatever it took, I just didn''t smoke. Smoking is a lousy addiction and remember NOPE, Not One Puff Ever.

Best of luck to you and take care!

An oldie saying hello...14 1/2 years quit.

My freedom...I am no longer a slave to a plant! No longer do I have to adjust my life to my cigarette cravings! :-)

Thank you for the acknowledgement Ashley...looks like most of my old buddies are gone now.

Take care,
Jen <3

Craving Same Time Everyday?

Early in my quit I would jump on my mini trampoline or go for a brisk walk on the beach to beat cravings. The more I exercised, the stronger and more confident I became. Hang in there, be good to yourself and don't smoke! :-)
