What is your biggest benefit from quitting?

Biggest benefit? If I am truly honest it would be finding my soul mate. Best of the Rest? Returning to physical fitness which I thought had abandoned me due to my excesses with nicotine and alcohol. In short, luna, then fitness. Penitent d757

Weighing in for 6/8

I would just like to take the opportunity of this thread to acknowledge the efforts of my super quit buddy who having quit smoking for nearly two years is now successfully addressing the few pounds which have been added during that time. She has a reduction target of 20 lbs (which I reckon will mean that she will have to run around in the shower to get wet!) by 15 July and has already lost 9 lbs since 24 May; that is 1lb every two days so she is right on course. This has been achieved by displaying a steely determination and discipline towards exercise and diet which isn't always easy. I admire her strength of character. I am proud of her and pleased for her but personally, I love her whatever she weighs! Penitent d755

Monday Stats Parade - 12 June 06

Well luna started the parade last week so I will start it this week! We are both happy to parade our stats which just keep growing and growing! BTW, Good Luck to the U.S.A. in their World Cup game against the Czech Republic today. Just for the record, the game kicks off at 12.00 noon EST (9.00 in the West) so get behind your team! For obvious reasons, I will be rooting for the USA all the way from London! luna d714 & Penitent d755

help

Welcome cancer, A good decision. It wont be easy, particularly with you recent life events but it will be worth it if you succeed. Whether you succeed is entirely down to you. There are plenty of aids out there to help you quit but it really depends on your determination and will to succeed. With that in place it can be done and done with some ease. Good Luck Penitent d698

700 Days, 100 Weeks....

.....and exactly 23 months! As I won't be about early tomorrow, I am posting now!!!!! In 4 hours time here in the UK it will be the 18th of April which will see my stats click over to the numbers above. As you can imagine, I am pretty pleased with my achievement, especially as when I set out I thought there was more chance of hell freezing over than me remaining smoke free! Well here I am and come the 18th of next month, when I hit 2 years, I will really have something to celebrate. For now, I will have to settle for 700 days, 100 weeks and 23 months - YEAH!!! My best wishes to you all with extra-special thanks for all her unstinting support during this time to my super quit buddy luna who will be celebrating her own 2 years smokefree in June; - thanks for everything Petal and well done for your own wonderful achievement! As we said in the early days, "let's just keep doing it!" Penitent d700 (in 4 hours time!)

A Thank You at 701 Days

Thank you all for your kind words and wishes which marked my 700 days. I am humbled by them because I am not around as much as I used to be, so it is extra special to receive your acknowledgements. I guess one reaches a point when it has all been said and repeating is the only option. I understand why people disappear when the site has served its purpose but you know what? Im not going anywhere any time soon! I owe this place, big time; so Im sticking around even if it is just for the odd post here and there to show my stats in an effort to keep on encouraging others. As you guys who responded to me know, it can be done and I live in hope that every new quitter will take heart from us and succeed as we have. Id love to respond to you individually so, in no particular order (other than last!) here goes! Melanie; Thanks for all you and the others do. Talking of others, wheres my mate Josie? Lady: congratulations on your inclusion in the Hall of Fame. Your 3500+ posts are testimony to your invaluable support of others, you should be proud of your quit and the support you give. Butterfly Swimmer: I know youve had your problems keeping your eyes on the prize but I have been impressed by your determination to get up, dust yourself down and get on with it. Keep that valuable trait and you will win. KahneKrazy: great name, you must tell me why! Many newcomers post today and are gone tomorrow! I am so pleased that you are staying; it IS an important step along the way to success. My best wishes to you. Walkingeagle and ABG; I always think of you two quitting together in a similar light to luna and myself! Fish and chips, strawberries and cream, luna and pen, walkingeagle and attaboygirl! I admire the way that you both quietly get on with it in your unassuming and calm manner. I probably missed your year recently so I bid you both warm congratulations and wish you every happiness in your new smokefree lives. Hey N2K; did I scold you? I cant remember but there must have been a good reason!!!!! I hope it helped you towards 8 months smokefree tomorrow. Keep doing it young un and keep laughing along the way, it sure helps! 3galeh! and Hummybird: probably because you quit around the same time, I cannot think of one of you without thinking of

NRT's reinject nicotine in my system.....

Nice post Sunflower, so very true from where I'm sitting. And why didn't the "magical" NRT's work for you previously whereas Cold Turkey has this time? Because this time you really wanted to quit and you have! Congratulations! Like I've always said here, if you really want to quit and you have the determination and willpower to succeed, you will whether you use nicotine replacements or not. Thanks for raising this old chestnut again Bubba, it was about due!! Penitent, cold turkey for 703 days!!

NRT's reinject nicotine in my system.....

Obviously some need a crutch and others don't; whatever works, that's the important thing. BTW, nice round number 200%! Penitent d703
