Day 2, Someone shut the junkie up!!!

Stick with it Kristilu! I've quit loads of times and blown up on day two. I don't know why it's such a tough day. I think maybe it's that you've quit long enough for the cravings to be really hurting, but not long enough for you to feel you don't want to waste what you've achieved. But once before I got past it and then did four months. I only failed that time because of a separation; I think I'd have got past just about anything else. This is the second time I've got to day three and although it's still tough I'm at day 16 now and it is getting easier. I'm definitely planning never to have another day two to get through. So grit your teeth and get to day three. Then grit your teeth and get to day four. Suddenly you've something that you've invested enough in to protect, and you can look forward to it starting to get a tiny little bit easier each day. But you've got to get over the day two hurdle! Good luck. Help!!!!!!!!

Krystle, the same thing happened to me three years ago. I'd done 5 months (5 months!!!!) and then my darling wife decided to walk out on me and our three young children. I went back to smoking; partly because I'm an addict, and I think at some level, because I knew she didn't like it. All very understandable but unlike you I didn't get back on again. That cost me another three years of smoking with all the bad things that we all know go with it. And now I have to do the five months again! It wasn't a very clever idea. I was so close to being free back then. So well done on getting back on your quit. Stay with it. This Sucks.

LLP Well I checked out that web site - is it real? If so, I think you could be the better person AND be vindictive! How do you get your spouse's photo on there? I'd love to see the ex-wife on there - 'abandoning children and screwing up my last quit' would do nicely! Sorry for going off topic here folks! Question about withdrawal symptoms???

Kristilu I'm sure the advice to consult your doctor is right.. "Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as: headache or migraine; nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth; confusion, dizziness, tremors (shaking); appetite changes, weight loss or gain; mild itching or skin rash, increased sweating; or loss of interest in sex. Actually I have most of these and I'm not even on Wellbutrin ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 400 Amount Saved: 110.00 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 14 Mins: 31 Seconds: 37

What a difference 2 weeks makes

Anna Your non-smoking husband says WHAT? Just as well it's 372 days. Much less than that and I think that would be just the trigger to get you back to smoking! ;) Kristilu Didn't know you had a smoking hubby. Makes your trying so much more impressive. I'm sure it would help but you don't need a spouse to quit with you; you can do it for yourself, by yourself. Stick with it and good luck. Day 2, Someone shut the junkie up!!!

Kristilu Fantastic - you're still going! This is such a tough time, every hour's an achievement. "chili cheese fritos and peanuts. I know it's not a very good choice....got me thru" What do you mean, not a good choice? It got you thru - it was a brilliant choice!! You won't get addicted to chili cheese fritos and peanuts. Get through these next few hours and days and you can be free from the lousy smoking addiction. Hang tough, as you say on that side of the pond. Actually talking about sides of the pond, I wish we could get chili cheese fritos on this side of the pond. What is your story?

Hi Nonic Great stuff! I really strongly agree with you about two particular things. First, it's a mistake to think I'm being deprived of smoking. I'm not. I am free to smoke any time I want. I think if you try and kid yourself that you 'can't' smoke, the fact that you (obviously) can will jump out and get you in the end, at some difficult moment. You can try and fool yourself that you can't smoke some of the time, but not all of the time, to coin a phrase (Lincoln?) It's a hard truth, but nevertheless true, that I can smoke. I have to learn to recognise, live with, and then pride myself on the fact that while I can smoke, I am choosing not to. Second, I'm not doing this for anyone else. I am doing it for me. I caused this addiction problem and I have to fix it, for me. Others - my kids for example - will benefit if I am successful, and are entitled to want me to be successful, but unless I decide I want to quit, I am unlikely to succeed. Anyway thank you for your carefully thought out and beautifully expressed opinions. Good luck all Dave My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 400 Amount Saved: 110.00 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 14 Mins: 37 Seconds: 34

hello

Alohakeia says; "If you smoke one of your parents' cigs, you will be craving again in 20 minutes" Dead right! Hold that thought. One cig, you will want another one near enough straight away. When you're trying to quit you have this feeling that you'd give anything just for one cigarette but that's an illusion. I've quit too many times before and failed when I've thought - just one. Rubbish. Within a few minutes you want the next one just as bad. But quit and those cravings will start to ease off after a few days. I was on between 20 and 30 a days, for 30 years, and the first thing I thought every morning when I woke up was that I wanted a smoke. And yet after just 16 days that feeling is a lot less intense. Stick with it. This Sucks.

Hey Den how's it going? Pretty good by the sound of things! Can I tell you, you were posting on here about two weeks ago when I had just quit, and you were saying how you were going to quit in a couple of days and you only had a few smokes left.. remember? And I read those and thought - oh dear, she wants to quit but she still loves the smokes too much, she won't get past day one. Well, look at you! I was wrong! Well done Den. Stick with it. I get 'bummed out' a bit but then again, I used to feel like that before, but then I had to deal with feeling bummed out and with being a smoker. One problem gone now.
