Hello, I am now into my 2nd day of being a non-smoker. I am using patches, which I apply before I go to bed (the morning cigarette was always the most important to me). This meant that yesterday I did ok with ignoring the cravings until about 4pm. Yesterday evening then became very uncomfortable. I kept snacking to take my mind off it, and without a cigarette after my tea last night, which always signified the end of a meal, my body insisted I keep eating all evening. Now I am not a greedy person, and I don't generally struggle with my weight, but I do struggle with mind over matter! Please advise how I can stop this snacking from spiralling out of control, and, to those of you who have used patches, please can you shed any light on whether applying the patches in the morning will still keep me covered sufficiently for the following morning. Thanks in advance for any support that you can offer me. cg My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10 Amount Saved: 2 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 2 Mins: 39 Seconds: 40

I have had very vivid dreams, and a distinct lack of sleep. My only worry if I don't wear the patch overnight is that my morning craving will be too extreme... When you get to the afternoon bit, If snacking helps than I wouldn't worry about it the first couple weeks. It is only now that you need it. You aren't going to become obese from initial snacking. It is better than a Smoke. You have too much to worry about right now so don't even give that snack a second thought. Good Luck!!

:( In response to gonnadoit...cold turkey advice on dreams... I quit...cold turkey in 1982 (for 10 years) and yes....the dreams were very vivid and the fact is I had dreams and sometimes nightmares up to three years after I quit. I had no luck with the patches because they were too stimulating and interupted my sleep. Perhaps I just wasn't truly ready to quit. I have chosen the Chantix this time and can quite candidly say it's the best choice I have ever tried!!! Good Luck...as they say, what works for one, may not work for someone else. auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 161 Amount Saved: $14.61 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 23 Seconds: 41

Hi, I wonder if you could put on a second patch??? If that would do anything to help you in the evening? Say around 4pm take the one you have been wearing all day off and put on a new one, not sure if the nicotine on the patch kinda wears off and a new one would give you more nic to help you get through... I have no idea if this makes sense, you should ask your doctor / pharmasict..Has anyone else done this (or does it make any sense)?... Hey cg, I put my patch on in the a.m. and leave it on all night. At the beginning of wearing the patch I was having problems sleeping, but after a few nights I was fine. I have found that it does carry me through to the next morning - as I too needed that 1st a.m. cigarette. Even now I still feel the need for one in the a.m., but I have mixed up my routines so that I've confused my body and my mind about the cig altogether. It's a huge mind game. Best advice I can give is that you try it various ways and see what works best for you. You're early in your quit and you'll find a plan which will suit you and your individual needs. Also re the food intake -- chow down for the 1st couple of weeks -- anything to protect your quit. If you can, as was suggested earlier, try healthy snacks as well..it balances it all out. Later you can worry about your weight..right now.. just FOCUS on your quit hon!
