April, what you are experiencing is normal.  We all have experienced changes in our sleep patterns!  You've smoked for many years.  All of these horrible toxins were in your body.  You haven't smoked in 19 days.  You are deprieving your body of nicotine.  Your body is adjusting on how to function without the constant flow of nicotine from a cig.  It will get better!  I would go to bed early so I would be sure to get enough sleep.  Don't watch tv when you go to bed.  Don't read a book.  Use your bedroom purely for sleeping right now.  Do a search here on sleep as I know there is lots of other great advice!  I remember one of the mod's posted something recently on how to get a better night's rest.  The good thing is, you are now defining what the new normal is.  You get to decide what is normal, not the nicodemon!  Congratulations on your success so far!

Thank you all for your words of hope and encouragement!
I seem to have much better days when I sleep a little... and today is not one of those days.
How did you guys manage to get sleep and feel like you weren't sleepwalking through the days?
I just can't wait to feel normal again.... reassure me that this will be soon!
Thanks again
April

Hi April..........

I just want to echo what others said.  Keep reading old and new posts and you will find many have had similar emotions, fears, anxiety, etc.  It takes a while for everything to adjust.  You will eventually start to feel some normalcy.

The sleep issue was a big one for me.  Those racing thoughts would go in to 5th gear when I woke up in the night.  That one took a long while for me but I finally saw some improvement after a few months.   Most important...........All of this is temporary.

Good Wishes!!

Hi and welcome April.....and CONGRATS on your quit!!
In my reading and searching here I found that most people do need less sleep after they quit because you actually sleep sounder and more peaceful.  It might take a while to get there but like all the other benefits of quitting......it will come.  We're still VERY new to the changes at just a few weeks.  You're doing great!!
