Bringing forward for good measure with a couple of thoughts: 1. Be proud -- be VERY proud! Even if you are having a bumpy day now and then, you are doing one of the best things you could ever do for yourself, those around you and the environment we live in. You are cleaning up your act and it will affect every area of your life. 2. Be strong -- be VERY strong! Yes, you might feel crappy on some days, but on some days you don't. Don't focus on the crappiness and ickiness. Focus on the strength you are building for every cigarette you don't smoke. 3. Be smart -- be VERY smart! If you have a question, ask. Read, learn, look around. Know that you --the REAL you, not the junkie you -- have the knowledge you need to get through this. Don't use your fear to make decisions. Understand that only you can do this for yourself, but you have within you what it takes. It's getting better all the time! "bump" is when you post to an old post to bring it to the top. You "bump" it up to the front page so that newer folks like you have a chance to read it. Glad you're finding the support you need here! I haven't seen a good, all around how-to-quit post in a long time so I'm bringing this one back up. The main message I would like to say to all new quitters is this: It doesn't matter what aid you use -- patch, gum, welbutrin, Chantix, laser, hypnosis -- If you don't have the desire and determination within you to do it, it won't work. Don't ever think that you will not have to do some hard work. But DO know that you can do it! I'm going to add two more to Rusty's great list: 1. In order to be successful, you must want this quit for yourself and yourself alone. This is your quit. Embrace it. Learn from it. 2. Try to stay away from smokers for the first 100 days, including those friends and family who smoke. They can, often unknowingly, be your worst enemy. It can be tough, but it is well worth the effort.
