Who and What has helped you the most?

YES YES YES

I knew you could do it! And so did you. Congratulations! This reinforces the thought that Me getting better was not just an accident. See it really happens! I bet you feel real good.

I keep chickening out

I'll say this again. using Ativan to get you over the hump won't lead to addiction. Remember me I'm the addict. I'm the guy who won't push drugs, But you may need help. It works like this You take one Ativan 30 minutes before you have to drive and if you don't feel impaired you drive, the next time you make it 45 minutes before, then an hour then you drive with the pill in your pocket incase you need it. Remember it works within 15 minutes. then you see how long you can go without taking it and pretty soon your driving without it. My only concern here is that you do this with a friend along incase. Or if you think it will leave you too impaired don't do it. I think I carried Ativan in my car for a year and never touched it. Just knowing it was there was enough. I now drive where ever and when ever my disability lets me and I enjoy it. We have a long twisty hill on the way to the grocery store and I run it as fast as I can and I enjoy it. Now this is still only what I would do, it's still your decision and if the Ativan leaves you impaired don't do it. What happened to set you back, you were doing Ok? There is one other thing you can do and that is just do it. Pick quiet side streets and do it. Try to imagine the hell I went through, The grocery store is 15 minutes away, and yes I had to pull over some times and calm down and some times I'd get part way and have to go home, but I kept trying, sometimes three times in a day. And now I would drive all over if my Arthritis would let me. Keep trying and keep posting. Members, what would you suggest, I know I'm not the only one who has beat this fear. Help me out here.
Peace

panic around grand-daughter

Hi Colleen.

Yes definitely, But then I can afford to lose the weight, but it's still annoying, oddly nothing seems to help it and gravol only makes me sleepy. It definitely seems to have something to do with anxiety. I wish I had an answer.

You might want to ask him about Buspar. It's not a Benzo and it's not addictive. It does the same thing (anti anxiety) but it works slower and has to be taken steady. It's often used as a replacement for people who have a hard time stopping Benzos. Good luck.

Hoping this program helps...really afraid

Hi Kristina.
My name is Davit and I concider myself a success. I was a mess and have suffered anxiety all my life.(59 years)
Welcome to the program. It works and will cost you nothing but time. But time it will take. A moderator will explain it and help you with it. I have always concidered Italy with it's history and culture to be a lovely place to live. I envy you. Thus said you need to cure this panic so you can enjoy it. I'm retired and practically live on this computer, so you can talk to me any time you want. The only thing will be the time change. I'm sure there will be others that want to help also. Remember panic is panic and although I can't relate to being pregnant, I did have multiple reasons for panic, and I have beat them. Periodicly I still try to panic but it is laughable how short it lasts and how little effect it has. In time it will fade out. New situations cause me some anxiety, but never terror. It is a really good feeling to know this thing doesn't rule my life any more. Keep posting. Accepting your reason for panic and talking about it is the first step to getting rid of it.

Peace

Myth or Fact

Samantha.

Oh. I have to agree with you but it is so hard to do any thing about the little stresses when they are dragging me down. I lose more time to them than I ever did to panic, and this I know because it's in my journal. So what do you suggest we do about it. Pushing myself only works so much. Some times I get so mad. I don't get out enough so I bought a SAD lamp.
I hope it works. Has any one else tried light therapy. It is very bright and I can't honestly say I like it first thing in the morning but I will stick it out if that is what it takes.

Celexa

Hi colleen

Hi it's Davit. I used celexa and I notice there are a few other people using it. It is the only SSRI that I can use It does take a while to start to work and you probably won't notice when it does. All I noticed is after a few days I started to feel different, the anxiety just faded away.I hope it works for you. I liked it because it didn't make me sleepy. I would strongly advise you to stay on the xannax till it works and even then you know you have to taper off of it slowly. I only took it for a couple of months. Like all the SSRIs it can make you worse for a few days till you adjust to it. I didn't gain weight but I did get muscle pain but then I was on too high of a dose. I didn't get fogged in, I could drive and function perfectly fine.
Good luck, let us know how you do. I'm kicking around starting it again because I'm getting the winter blues, you know Christmas and all that.

Panic Disorders and fear of dying

Hi JGD84

I took buspar when I was withdrawing from Ativan. And I found it acceptable. I took it with Celexa. But you know everybody is different. Your right about the therapy. If you think negative thoughts hard enough, they will cut right through the medication. This I know from experience. I still get unwanted thoughts trying to cut in. I still get anxious and depressed but I have learned how to control them. Anxiety is normal, turning it into panic is not. If you do a combination of the meds and this program, you will eventually be able to get off the meds. I know when panic hits it seems that nothing will make it go away. And all the pains and unwanted thoughts are very real and very scary. But take my word for it, you can stop the panic or at least lesson it to the point where it doesn't count any more. I was a mess for a long time and  I'm pretty much Ok now and getting better all the time. As a last ditch thing you could, with your doctors permition, increase your calcium. It has a large calming effect and I find myself treading the panic road without it. Try the program, it works. The moderators will explain any questions you have.

Peace

Celexa

Hi colleen.

I certainly know that gaggy can't eat feeling. I get it if I don't take calcium, even though my blood level is otherwise normal. So I have a cup of Ginger Mint tea and a gram of calcium and within the next half hour I can eat, sometimes not much but at least I can eat and I don't get that nauseous bloated feeling I get if I force myself to eat. And quite often in a short while my appetite comes right back. This is good since I have Arthritis medication that has to be with food. If mint tea doesn't work Lemon Balm tea will but it can be very sedating. Two cups a day max. It works some for panic too.
