Has anyone had panic issues associated with perimenopause

Lay low.

Definetly. I had a broken leg, and staph infection, never got out of bed for four months. never even rolled over.
It's not neccesary to know what causes an attack. you need to know how to contol it and eventually make it go away.
I'm sure the moderaters will be along to explain the program, I'm just here to tell you it works.

Peace.

Going back to work Monday.......

Leanna.

I'm goiog to presume two things. One is that you like your job. The second is that you are still on the same medication. No you should think about it, but in a different way. Think about this, antisapatory anxiety as normal, it belongs there. What you do with it dictates how bad it will be. Have you got your escape techniques in place? What do you do at home when you start to think the unwanted thoughts? What do you do to distract yourself. Do you make a cup of tea, go to the bathroom, turn on music etc. Is there some tecknique you can take with you. If you get dizzy at work tell yourself it's a side affect of the medication and is supposed to be there. That is far more acceptable than thinking "I'm going to panic". and remember it may be the medication. If people ask if your Ok, and they will, laugh and tell them you think you might have a cold. In fact tell yourself the same. Blow your nose even. And laugh. laugh lots. any thing for a distraction. And every time you manage to put your anxiety on the back burner, laugh and say "I won". You have four days to think of ways to deal with it and you only have to get through the first day. the second will be easier. And final and I hope you don't have to do this you can always go home, after all it is flu season. This is how I would deal with it. I'm sure others have more ways to calm down.  Good luck and let us know how you manage. I'll be here with bated breath (turning blue) waiting for you to post.
Peace

night panic

Hi nosleep

No you most certainly are not alone. There are a lot of us out there and after a while you will be able to pick them out of a crowd. Zoloft is a SSRI, and it can take two weeks to have any affect. If after that much time , it doesn't work, try a different one. They are all a bit different because so are people. The only one I can use and which works for me is Celexa, and it was easy to quit. Klonopin is a benzodiasapan. You can become dependant on it but since you should only take it for nine weeks you should be ok, so I would say if you need it take it. It is far easier to quit than Ativan but not as easy as Valium. All three in the same class. It should help you sleep. There is a difference between dependance and addiction. If you can manage every second day the chances of becoming dependant (using it for a crutch) will be far less. I had to do withdrawl from ativan and it was tough but then I was on it for four years. If you follow the program you should see results before the Klonopin becomes a problem. Just follow the program one step at a time and concentrate as much as possible on relaxation tecniques and breathing exercises. Good luck and keep posting.

Panic Attack with Travel

Hi.

I think you did exceptionally well. When I still had panic attacks I couldn't even travel with some one else. I had to have my own vehicle for escape, even if I didn't need it. That was a very good description of a panic attack. I felt like I was there and at one time just reading it would have set me off. It is a sign of how well I've progressed. I have to congradulate you on surviving. Well done. You definetly have the right attitude to beat this thing. Isn't it annoying that once the attack passes and your calm you wonder why you had to experience it in the first place. I like the fact you won't let it make you lose out on life. I would almost bet that you have little improvements that you are overiding with your dislike of panic attacks.  Good work, good luck. Peace.

Need to move forward

Hi Lance.

You do sound OCD, right now. I think your expecting too much too soon, you were doing so good. If i'm not mistaken it's a 12 week or there abouts course. I had set backs, I think every body gets set backs. There have been others who said they got three steps forward and two back. That only means your one step ahead, but it's still one step. It took me longer. I saw a therapist for six months and at one point I got mad and told her I didn't want to see her again. I had to appolagize profucely. She asked me to do something I didn't want to do cause I thought I didn't have to. But she was right and Thank God she had the patience to put up with me or I'd still be having panic attacks. So patience please and keep at it. I won't lie to you and say it's easy because it's not, but it does work. Any questions just ask, some one will answer. and if they don't I will.

Panic/Asthma Attacks

I don't know what to say except that My O2 Sat has never gone below 99% even during a panic attack, but my glucose is up as much as 5 points, but I don't know if its cause or affect. I don't have Asthma but when I'm stressed or tired I can't get my breath or maybe I just don't breath. I'm no longer on medication so all I have is Lemon Balm , or Ginger Mint tea. Both work real fast to stop the anxiety and I breath Ok again. When I did Ativan withdrawl I would drink one or two cups To carry me through the rebound. It was terrific. I'd start to breath again and go back to sleep. (night panic). I'm just stating this as a fact, not a recomendation. It can be hazardous in large doses but it does work. I no longer get panic attacks as is, any panic I get is so mild it doesn't qualify. If you are not doing the program, please look at it. I'm sure it can help you.  (by the way I have Scoliosis but it never got bad enough to need pins. But I now have seven fused vertebrea.)
Peace.

What does Depersonalization Feel Like

HI all.

I used to get something like that. I would get it because I was hurrying, usually decause I didn,t want to be there. Only in a store or Library. I'd be walking down an isle and my legs would stop and I'd get tunnel vision. I'd have to find a place to sit or lean till it settled. I could see myself and all my movements but it was like I was some one else looking in. Except for the very immediate area nothing existed and it was silent. It would pass in a few minutes and the first time it happened I thought I had a stroke or a blood clot. I soon learned to spot it comming on. I would start to get a fuzzy dislocated feeling and if I walked slow and concentrated it wouldn't happen but it was still uncomfortable. My pulse would go up and a few times I thought I had stopped breathing for a bit. Oddly enough It was worse when I was taking Minocycline Antibiotics. It no longer happens but I have some other odd things happen that I asociate with anxiety, mostly visual. Penacillin antibiotics disturb me also but not if they are by IV. It may be the filler in the pills. There may be an Alergy association here. I would like to hear from other people and what they think causes it.
Peace.

anger during anxiety

Hi

I turn the anger towards myself and use it to force myself to do some thing I've been putting off.
It gets rid of the anger and gets something done that needed to be done and may be the cause of the anger in the first place. This is where I'm going to disagree just a bit with Samantha, By all means try to relaxe, BUT, if there is a reason for the anger then it has to be dealt with or it will come back. On the other hand if it's just frustration then calming exercises work best for me. God I'm getting long winded today!
Peace
