Very interesting how they found, by scan, the difference in the brain of an alcoholic and a non alcoholic and how some medicine can help. There is also a section for relatives and partners to better cope with the addicted. The documentary is only available to Canada though the rest is open at large

On CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Channel) tonight (January 21st) at 8:00 p.m. is the show "The Nature of Things" with an episode called "Wasted".  It is  a documentary by Mike Pond,  a psychotherapist and alcoholic with 5 years sobriety and his partner.  I think it will be an interesting watch about his journey and current addiction treatment and research.  I would think it would be available online too.

I'm reading a book on healing the emotional trauma's that lead to alcohol abuse (but not limited to alcohol abuse). It's an excellent book. There is a reference to a poem in there that may resonate with some here if you haven't come across before...... :

Hope you take something away from it that may open up ideas....

Hi Julie,

I've followed Marc Lewis' site for a while now and really like the discussion forums. Great reference. Thanks for adding to the resources.

I want to recommend a great website:  memoirs of the addicted brain.  It is written by Marc Lewis the neuroscientist who wrote the excellent book, "The Biology of Desire". The website contains lots of intelligent and thought-provoking discussion about addiction by scientists and people in recovery.

Hi Emma,

Yes, it speaks to me as well. We hang on to so much nonsense that only serves to anchor us in place, and has no purpose except to keep us stuck in the past. The past is cement. We can do nothing to change it, however, we can consider the moment, take a step back if necessary to review our perspective, and decide our future. We decide our course of action, where we want to go. Listen to your heart when it speaks to you because your path belongs to you, no one else. What a great gift when you choose to accept it!

I like your attitude Emma. You inspire me, You're going to be fine. Looking forward to sharing your idea's and the journey.

All the best.

PS. I'm off tomorrow on a bit of R&R for a week so if I don't respond it's just because I no internet. Going to explore a new perspective I've wanted immerse myself for quite a while. So much to look forward to. :)

All the best,

Dave

I came across this site and it's worth having a looking. They send you "Simple reminders for Daily Inspiration" when you sign up for the daily email.......

Here's an example......

"When you are unforgiving and carry animosity, you feed the very soul of conflict that keeps your pain alive. If you suffocate your heart with anger, all your dreams will die. The only way to allow your soul to freely breathe, is to forgive." ? Bryant McGill

(....and we could start with ourselves.....)
