Hey Nick, I did the CO2 thing its quite scary isnt it?? I am sure my first reading was 27??? and I was a heavy smoker and I did once score the magic 0- but that was on a day when i took the back route to the docs and didnt pass one car! My cessation counsellor/nurse told me that in London they have to accept quite a high reading from non smokers due to as you said the pollution-anyway your reading was brilliant- keep up that great work!

My cessation counsellor was quite happy with my progress. She wouldnt comment on the blood pressure issue. She is pleased about the way i'm going though, as am I.

Hi Nick F,

Blood pressure readings can be higher after exercise or smoking.

Normal blood pressure is around 120 over 80. High blood pressure is around 140 over 90. Very high blood pressure can be around 200 over 100.

81 after a short run seems to be a very good pulse.

Sounds like you are doing great. What did the nurse say?

Todays carbon monoxide reading was 3. I've been assured that everyone has a slight raise today because of the muggy weather. The air just isnt moving so the car polution just sits in the air. Also i've done a few days living with a chain smoker and working in a busy city center.

My blood pressure reading today was 125 systolic 75 diastolic pulse was 81 after a short run up the hill, into the clinic and straight to the blood pressure machine before my appointment.

Last weeks reading was 128 systolic 83 diastolic with a pulse of 69 after driving to the clinic.

I just dont understand blood pressure readings, if anyone would care to explain i'd be most interested.

congratulations Nick..Since a 0 is impossible I would guess the two you scored is like your zero then..I never heard of a co reader eighter but it sounds much like the devices used on alcoholics..Your doing great..stay strong and keep saying Nope..

KC the CO reader is a tube connected to a hand held device. You take a big breath in, hold it for 10 seconds, then expel it through the tube. Whether the device measures parts per million or what, i dont know.
My first score as a 20 a day smoker was 44. Very high, right in the middle of the red zone.

Got on the zyban course and started cutting down without noticing. Got some great advice off my uncle to push off the cigarettes i enjoyed the most. First one in the morning ended up at 11.30 am, last one at night around 10pm.

Went for my next appointment some 2weeks later and scored a 10. Georgina (my counsellor) urged me to quit completely within 4 days. I did but slipped saturday just gone, i only managed 2 days smoke free.

Got back on my feet monday morning and went for it again.

Today I scored 2. A zero is impossible if theres a road anywhere near. The air carries a certain ammount of CO from car fumes.
