hey Rat, it isn't easy, but it is worth it.

I knew I wasn't going to smoke, no matter what, I gave myself no out if you will, I might have been a real ***** but I wasn't smoking ya know?

The wise ones here say when you want to quit more than you want to smoke, you will.

I spent my early days reading this entire site.  It keep me focused and delayed my craves.  I had mints, cold water and started exercising first thing.  I told everyone I knew I was quitting so I was accountable.

You can do it, we are here to help.

POST BEFORE YOU GIVE IN TO A CRAVE.  Wait for 10 replies.  k?

Sue

Hi Rat, I had so many attempts at quitting where I slipped up again and again! I'm sure all the good folks here were sick of me coming back with my tail between my legs every week but it's understandable. It is a very powerful addiction and it can take some time to prep yourself up in your mind and also to find the method that works for you. Each time I slipped up, I really beat myself up about it which didn't help. It just made me feel more down and want to smoke more, so if you can just pick yourself right back up and keep going. We never realise how much of a grip nicotine has on us until we try to break free. Get ready- its a rollercoaster but I'd say you'd never back down to a challenge!!

Good luck!

Paula

Hi, RAT,
I slipped right through my first Day but I came in here and got support and I started the quit the next day . I was also taking Champix and found that if I ate something just before i took it I did a lot better... Just keep it in your mind that you can and will beat this addiction to nicotine and that you want your freedom back again...

Rat,

We are here to support and lend a hand.  Take the time to talk to your doctor and pharmacist regarding the medications.  It may be something as simple as "take with food".  Restrengthen your resolve and get prepared, be ready for anything and post before you light up.

We are ready when you are.

I'm so glad you came back to check in Rat.....
It took me more than one quit, but this time so far, so good.
I think the trick is not to look at the long term or the big picture at first.
The best advice I've read so far is to just take 15 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour at a time.
The rest of it takes care of itself. You are right, you have to quit for you.
YOU CAN AND WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!!!
I'm in your corner girlfriend and cheering loud.
Theresa

Theresa im glad you are doing well i hope that you can be stronger than i was on my first attempt. i also relized that quiting is going to have to be for me, not for everyone else. Maybe if i get my head wraped around being a non smoker i will be succesfull.
