Wheeley, I'm new here too and my quit date is just 4 days before yours so we'll be just about on the same time line. Congrats to you and your husband on your decision to quit together. That's fantastic. My husband quit smoking 7 years ago and he's really excited that I've decided to quit..finally. Hi Wheeley! Congrats on your decision to quit! I can't take Zyban either but many people here use Chantix. If you do go cold turkey, be prepared for the nicodemon. He'll try to tell you that you have it harder than your husband and will try to make an excuse for you to smoke. Don't listen to him. Once you get past those first three days and your body is nicotine free, it'll start adjusting to functioning without nicotine and it will get easier. I'm not trying to be all doom and gloom. I just want you to be prepared. My ex-girlfriend and I quit together once and while she was at the beginning of Zyban therapy, she told me one day that she'd only had for cigarettes. Nicodemon was telling me how unfair it was making me want to have a cigarette. Then, I went on Zyban. Big mistake! It really messed with my brain - so much so that I don't know how it can also be used as an anti-depressant. When you have cravings, just remember that they typically last three minutes whether you smoke or not. They might become more intense as the nicotine leaves your body up to the third day and then will become less intense and less frequent thereafter. I wish you two the best! Keep coming here and you'll do fine. Congradulations on your decision to quit together. I would think it will be easier for the both of you this way. I too and preparing to quit. My date is May 28. I only have a few cigs left before then so am rationing them out because I refuse to buy another pack. Good luck I know you all can do it. Great to meet you Wheeley, I think you're going to find help here, I did. It wasn't the first time I had tried to quit but it was the first time I've not been alone on a quit. There are so many great "quit buddies" here that have been there before or are there right now with you. Share your thoughts and your experiences. It really does help. I hope you and your husband get it done! All the best to you. Hi Wheeley, and welcome. What a wonderful thing you are doing for yourself, your hubby, and your family. You will not regret it. I have tried quitting before (as so many of us have) and I have not been successful until this time. I am convinced it is because of the support of people on this site. Yes, come here any time you are 'jonesing' and share your experiences with us. Many will tell you just don't smoke that cig until you have posted here and received several replies. My only suggestion is that you smoke your last cigs together. If you are smoking for a couple of days after his last cig, it will be even harder for him. We know that the first few days are the worst since it takes 3 days for the nicotine to leave the body. Why not quit together??? What a wonderful gift to each other! Good luck!
