A Simple Truth

Great post.

Sadness, or any emotion for the matter, is meant to be felt, processed and then we move on. Avoiding feeling and processing the emotion can be as harmful just as avoiding moving on.

Definitely worth the punt Pen!  Thanks for bumping it up, and thanks to Nonic for the original...I loved it!  Hope many new quitters will take the time to read it.

I forgot to thank you for the kind word with regard to my attempt to write the dialog at the end of the story.  That is why this is a much better story told verbally.  But it had to be written that way because the Scots have such a genius for metaphor that to simply say "You told me where you've been but you haven't told me where you are going" would take the magic out of the tale...

Yes, sometimes people let us glimpse eternity in a single phrase.  Perhaps that is what lifts us up to continue the fight.  It is not necessarily the words, that show us the way, but the way in which those words connect us to a larger view of ourselves and our relationship to that which is eternal.

I am happy that you have had this experience.  Words are merely two dimensional bits and pieces.  It is when their meaning strikes the bullseye of our longing nature that we are propelled forward to see a greater truth...

Hi Nonic,

Good Story!  It's funny how someone can say something so quickly, yet it resonates with us for a long time.

8 years ago, a quit buddy of mine used the phrase:  NEVER LOOK BACK!  THE FUTURE IS AHEAD!
Somehow that hit home for me, and it has been my mantra for many years.  It was especially true when I was diagnosed with cancer and I could have spent my time regretting my smoking years and living with nostalgia.  Instead, I looked forward to my fight with that evil and, so far, my remission holds.

Great seeing you again.  Happy new year.

Love Lolly.

PS.  Being a Scot, I understood all the words!  Lol!

Yea the guy never missed a beat and told me just what I needed to hear at that moment...It's funny he no doubt has no memory of the event but for me it was pure genius...Goes to show we really have no clue when it comes to understanding the effect we have on other people both positive and negative...In truth, this is a better story told verbally, but I thought I would have a go at writing it down...
