The good news is that since I'm on the west coast this week, its now 4 days smoke free for you!  So let me be the first to congratulate you on surviving 4 days!  You are doing a great job showing the nicodemon who is the boss!  Keep taking it one day at a time and you'll go far!

You can give yourself a big pat on the back! Be proud of your progress... you are in the toughest part.

No way I could have gone cold turkey. I was a "warm chicken" and used patches. Lots of people here have used nrts with great success.
Doens't matter the method.. it's the quit that counts.
Everyone is an individual and better to find what works for them.
It's great that you care enough about your quit to keep it going by anyway possible. Yea!

Check out the thread that Cold Turkey just started with all of his great tips.. very helpful info there.
Don't forget to work through the program up in the left corner "my program". It's like having a road map :)

Welcome! We are really happy to have you here!

Best,
HP

I am on day 3, and as it was the last time I quit, day 3 is always the worst!  Plenty of energy to kick it the first few days, but day 3, the addict voice always seems to win.  I admitted today that I needed a little more help today, and got some NRT gum to help, although I am only going to use for the super severe.  Anything to keep the nico-demon from winning, but today is a super rough day!

Okay, should we be concerned that we have not heard from Phoenix in 2 days?
Phoenix is clearly a guy; a girl would have checked in by now to keep us all from worrying.

Phoenix!  Phone Home!!  What's going on with you??  It's okay if you're not ready yet (yeah, that "rush" of toxins attacking our brain cells and blood vessels is to die for, huh??), but hang in with us, okay?  We want/need to know how you're doing.

Pheonix,
You've gotten awesome advice from the members here.  We've all been exactly where you are now.  There's little more I can add to the support you've already gotten.

I do have a couple of questions for you:

1.  Have you read the Easyway to Quit Smoking by Allan Carr?  (Do you understand and accept that you're a nicotine addict?)

2.  Have you done all the workbooks here and made plans and prepared things to help you quit? (Know the addiction and how you can defeat it).

Ok, when you're ready we'll be here.

1...2...3..........GO!

Pat

Great advice everyone!

Phoenix,

By far, your first smoke-free week is the most difficult. Our Support Group members call the first week of quitting “hell week” because that’s when withdrawal symptoms are their strongest. As a smoker, you’ve spent a large part of your waking hours feeding your body nicotine, so when you stop the feeding, your body craves what it misses. During your first smoke-free week your withdrawal symptoms (and cravings) may, at times, seem almost unbearable. However it’s extremely important for you to realize that these symptoms do, and will, taper off.

  Stay Strong,

Phoenix I too hope you're feeling better today. The first few days are just surreal-and Debby, my every thought at first was smoking, everywhere I looked there was someone smoking and of course its the addict in us fighting for survival.
However, please believe me when I tell you that from this side there is nothing good about smoking thats worth going back for. Once you new quitters get over this dreadful Hell week, then the benefits start to come-hang on in there guys you can do it.

My Milage:

My Quit Date: 5/10/2008
Smoke-Free Days: 312
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,800
Amount Saved: $4,680.00
Life Gained:
Days: 36 Hrs: 20 Mins: 8 Seconds: 37
