It's not the smoking that feels so good, it is the cessation of withdrawal symptoms.  Withdrawal symptoms will pass, and each time you beat one, you get stronger and stronger.
 
It's like any other addiction.  The alcoholic wants to drink to get rid of the withdrawal symptoms (he/she no longer drinks to get high, but just to feel normal).  When we are quitting smoking, we just want to feel normal again (believe me, I know!)..... and we will.  Well, as normal as we get anyway .
 
Promise, promise, promise-- it gets better.  Hang in there Phoenix.  Keep writing, use your tools, and lean hard on us when you need to.

Phoenix, I hope you were able to get some sleep last night.  You've been given some excellent advice below!  I like what Marivi said, you made a non negotiable decision to stop smoking.  Take it one craving at a time, one day at a time, and be sure to reward yourself every time you say N.O.P.E.  You can do this!!!

First 3-4 days is TOUGH.............Sleep and rest got me through
 
That feeling that lighting up gave us was what we thought was a reward.....a good feeling........  That's how the addict makes us think!..It was the addict taking even stronger hold of us and making us need it more.  A VERY strong drug.
 
That's what we are fighting and the beginning is tough.  REWARD yourself with anything that makes you feel good....candy, hot bath, walk, just deep breathing.........your choices.  Reward for getting through those craves........and for being stronger than the addict.  It's how we win and take our lives back.
Keep posting and reading......This place is awesome and will help a bunch.

Hi,
Just hold in there, I'm just starting day 3 and to be honest I feel total lost. I didn't sleep to good last night, I just kept thinking about those stupid white sticks!!!  Today I've got a really bad headache, but I know that if I have a ciggy now that I don't think that I would try to quit again for ages. I want to quit and this time I will quit.
 
Just have a good sleep and think about the reasons you started this quit and be strong. everyone on this site is saying that maybe you on the wrong strength of meds, go and see your doctor and talk it over with them. I'm using the patch this time and it really seems to be doing the job for me.
 
All the best, keep in touch and remember to be strong, you can and will get through this.

Hang on Phoenix!!
It's the junkie in you trying to lure you into the nasty addiction! You are almost nicotine free!. I know you are feeling lousy right now, but hang on, it gets easier and better! You deserve to be healthy and enjoy a long life!! Your body deserves to be treated in a respectful way, and you hate the filthy smell of your hair,breath and clothes when you smoke! It's great to break free of cigarrettes! You won't have to plan your day around your smoking anymore!
So my advice:
Keep your hands busy: posting,grabbing a stress ball, solving puzzles, or "smoking" a plastic straw.
Drink lots of ice water
Take a hot shower
If you need to sleep, sleep.
If you need to cry,cry.
If you need to yell, yell!
But please, don't smoke.
Remember you made a non negotiable decision to stop smoking!!!!

I am just here to keep my thoughts from smoking and my fingers busy. For the last few hours, I have been consumed with the idea of smoking off and on. I keep asking myself why do I want to quit when smoking makes me feel sooo good. And I won't lie I miss the good feeling of smoking. What can I do to replace that rush? I miss it so bad I have started crying tonight...any advice? I think really soon I am going to bed and hoping to wake up to a new frame of mind...
