I won't forget that image of being in a fetal position craving heroin, can you imagine? Actually, I can! Not for heroin, but being in the fetal position trying to sleep and get past this horrid week. WTG, 17 days, I'm proud of you! You two are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont think I could quit with someone that lived in the same house as me...matter of fact I know I cant. My hats off to both of you! RAWK ON! It's now been 536 hours since I last had a cigarette in my mouth! Wendi and I have been keeping track of hours since we quit. At this point we are now approaching one month. I just want to express my gratitude to this community. I've never been involved with any type of support group before and what a difference it makes. What a difference my life is now not smoking! I know that my quit is still very young but I also know that this quit is my last. This community is filled with love and great advice. I hope my quit will encourage another's someday. Hello all...again. I had another "smoking" dream last night!? Can you believe that? I quit cold turkey and have never used the patch but still the dreams. I was telling Wendi there is an upside to these dreams.......when I wake up I realize it was only a dream and I feel great that I didn't actually light up. I'd still prefer not to dream about such things. I think that I smoked for so long that my brain is like "What's going on here?...OK If we are not going to smoke anymore...I'll just fantasize about it!" I must say that the real life cravings have diminished somewhat. So anyhow I just keep on keepin' on. I take it day by day. I breathe in deep (because I now can) munch on peppermint and walk for miles. This quit is working for me and I hope yours is too. Hey guys thanks for the responses and all the support. I'm prob gonna vent a bit and ramble on so pardon me in advance. Today I was thinking about when I first started smoking. I really don't remember when it was or how I became a smoker. I remember pretending to smoke -not inhaling- one time when I was 12 or so. I remember feeling awful and scared not so much cool and mature. I just don't know what happened between that one time pretending and about eighteen days ago when I extinguished my very last smoke. I do know that I was very naive in thinking smoking cigarettes was just a bad habit. The addiction is strong and powerful. This is the hardest thing I've ever been through in my life. But, I know I can never go back. I may never recall the day I picked up smoking but I'll never forget the day I quit! This is where I'm at. The space between smoking and not. Wishing I had never started - Oh if I could go back in time. Trying to convey these feelings to my children so they never start. Irritated that, after sixteen days of forcing myself not to do something that had become so natural, I can't shake this feeling I have in my chest and the back of my throat. I don't want to smoke anymore!!! I haven't wanted to smoke for some time now. What I want is for the cravings to leave me alone. My mouth is sore of chewing gum, my legs hurt from the miles of walking and a man can only eat so many peppermint candy canes! I'm jealous of those who never smoked but thankful my addiction is limited to tobacco. I mean I could be in the fetal position craving crack or heroin...right? Right on, Robb!! That's the spirit! Nobody ever promised us it would be easy and some days it's damn tough. But as someone here pointed out recently, when we were smokers we had good days and bad days. Why would we expect it to be different as non-smokers? You and Wendi are doing SO WELL -- even if it's hard to remember that sometimes in the middle of a bad day, or half day, or moment. You're in week 3 -- wow! You're very lucky to have one another -- oh, and us, too. This too will pass. It is not such a bad penance - candy canes and walks. Every crave that you struggle through now is one less down the road toward quitting. Every crave that you would give in to now lends to two, three, or more down the road in allowing nicotine the upper hand. I felt that feeling of impatience - Not smoking but wanting to be to the non-smoker part. Your assignment right now is to cleanse your body and mind. It can feel like a lot of wasted time spent fighting. It is. But know that you are making progress. One day you will look back and benefit from the work you are doing today.
